    1. [ILMACOUP-L] A Scotch-Irish History
    2. For those of you interested in the distinctive men and women of Ulster who settled North America, you might take a look at the book "The Scotch-Irish: A Social History," by James G. Leyburn (The University of North Carolina Press). It includes an appendix "The Name 'Scotch-Irish'." Leyburn writes: "The Scotch-Irish have been written about as a 'racial' group, as if their virtues and defects were inherent in their stock; they have been called the first typical American pioneers, the bulwark of the Revolution, the first radical element in American politics; occasionally, their contribution to a particular colony has been justly estimated."
