Hoppe(r) (#190) and Maria Ackerman, was b. 24 Jun 1786; bap. 9 Jul 1786, at Paramus Reformed Dutch Church. He is bur. with his wife in the Bunker Hill Cemetery in Macoupin Co. IL. From the cemetery records he was "b. 17 Jun 1784? NJ and d. 21 Aug 1873. They liv. first in NYC before moving to Anderson Twp. (near Cincinnati) Hamilton Co, OH, along with three of his brothers and a sister. According to census records his son Jacob V. was born in Ohio ca. 1814, and he was probably the Garret listed in the 1820 Census, in Cincinnati. Yet, on 1 May 1830, Garret G. Hopper and Elizabeth his wife, were again liv. in New York City. (See deeds in father's record.). By 1850 he was living in Macoupin Co. IL, a farmer age 66, b. in NJ (he would have been 64) with land valued at $5,000 liv. with Ellizabeth 63 (she would have been 60), also b. NJ, Matilda Hopper 16 b. in OH, and James Monegan 16, laborer, b. Ireland.) On 24 Aug 1808, "Garret Hopper m. Elizabeth Voorhees," at 1st. Ref. Ch. of Hackensack. NJ (Bergen Co. Marriages p.28). The 1888 Van Voorhees Family Genealogy said she was the dau. of Jacob Van Voorhees and Elizabeth Naugle, b. 29 Nov 1789; the Rev'd version has b. 5 Nov 1789 (neither gives the source), Cemetery records say she d. 8 Oct 1851 aged 65. . In 1850 he was living near Garret in Macoupin Co., IL aged 35 a farmer born in OH with $2,400 in land. with him were Lucinda 32, Ellen 11, Emma 8, Julia 6, Elizabeth 4, and Amelia 1 (all b. in OH) and Patrick Carroll 40 farmer and William Welsh 18 farmer (both born IN) . In 1870 he was in Macoupin Co., Jacob V. 55 farmer/merchant , Lucinda 52, Julia 23, Eugenia 21, all b. OH, Garret J.16 (farm help), Frank 12, (both b. IL) and Garret 84, retire farmer b. in NJ. Next to Jacob were two valuations (possibly for Garret and his father - $20,000 (land) $5,000 (personal), and $2,000 land and $3,00 (personal). He m. Sarah Stark in Macoupin Co., IL. According to her grave stone she was the dau. of Larkin Stark and Hannah Wright born 17 Feb 1833 and d. 20 Dec 1853. She is bur in the Bunker Hill Cem. in Macoupin Co. IL, with her parents and dau. and other Hoppers. In 1850 J.D. aged 23y a farmer b. NJ (land valued at $400)was liv. with Sarah Hopper aged 16. On 21 Sep 1854 j.D. Hopper purchased 3 tracts of Federal Land. The only Hopper listed in the 1860 index of Macoupin Co. IL was Jacob V.
