Call IRAD for a deed search, that should have the exact location of their land as well as when they bought and sold it, to/from whom, and for how much. http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/GenealogyMWeb/iradsrch.html Go to this link, select Macoupin and search to see what all records are available thru the IRAD depositoy at UIS in Springfield. http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/archives/irad/iradaddr.html The above link will give you the address and phone numbers to call. They take search requests over the phone, typically cost 10 or 25 cents a copy depending on the library (usually also a dollar minimum charge). I've had great results from the various IRAD locations, especially with deeds. All have been legible and a wealth of info about their locations. When they sold the land also helps really narrow down when they likely moved in between the census years. I've looked at the Macoupin Co. homepage link and find no town names (unless I haven't gone far enough either direction). The family is that of Daniel J. and Nancy Blair and 3 children, who appear on page 266B of the listing by Littleton Bradley. > > Next I went to Ancestry.com and find one whole block of pages with the town listed as "Not Stated". That appears to be 173 pages. I thought the family was in Chesterfield, but that township is listed among the listed townships. Also there is "Not Stated". It looks as if Girard, Nilwood, Palmyra, Virden, and lots of others are missing. They may have been in Nilwood, but how do we tell? Other names on the Ancestry.com page 266 and homepage 266B are: Sarles, Millyard, Brown, Reaves or Reames, Brownlee, McClean & Paynter. Names on the homepage 266A are: Hudspeth, Rhodes, Carson, Parsons, Miller & Cawood. > > Is anyone familiar with this problem? Thanks, Darren. I can also check the Recorder of Deeds office at the Macoupin Co. courthouse. I also checked the 1875 Atlas and 1893-4 Plat Book of Macoupin Co., IL reprinted by the Macoupin Co. Historical Society, and found people in the 1875 Chesterfield township plat with the same names as Daniel Blair's 1850 neighbors . I am pretty confident that is where Blair was in 1850.
