Please read thru the whole message before you decide to type. We need typists for Macoupin Probate Index A (earliest thru 1881) It will be done if and when we get enough typists. Sue McMurry has agreed to help me in proofreading and using the 2x4 when I am not alert. Thanks, Sue. Sample - I typed letter "A" (probably about a third or fourth the size of typing for, say, letter "W"): http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilmacoup/probate-a/a.htm To keep my sanity, you must agree to this contract: 1. You can request from me any of the following pkgs of letter(s). B C D EF G HI JK L M NOPQ R S TUV WYZ (there is no X) 2. These pkgs are somewhat large (in my terms of typing definition) and I am paying postage for all going out from here so you have to promise that if you can't type them for some reason, you will send post paid all unfinished typing back to me. Please don't ask for a letter of the alphabet package because you want to see the names and don't have intentions of typing. 3. If you type the data, then it should be returned in a timely fashion, say 2 weeks to a month, reason given for not being able to finish, or copies returned to me in same timely fashion. 4. You MUST promise to do one proof reading of your own typing. We will also do one proofreading and that is exactly 2 total proofreadings. Signed [Your Name] **************************** Typing initial/basic instructions (I know there will be individual questions later): *Even dummies can help, see dummie instructions below. *************** Database/spreadsheet Typists: If you have up to date spreadsheet/database programs then you better save it in one version BELOW your up to date one. I have Excel 97 and I can only convert your Excel, Works, DBase, Quattro, Mac .csv, etc, from whatever my Excel 97 will convert. If you are ahead of me in revisions, I won't be able to convert. Use the sample site: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilmacoup/probate-a/a.htm 7 columns (header row like the sample is ok to include) DO NOT SORT!! (haven't decided if I will sort at all cuz are in alpha order generally - easier for courthouse worker to reference if isn't sorted - anyway decision will be later) Arial 8 font regular would be ok. Other than that, leave stripped from fancy formatting/fonts/authors/titles, etc. Easier for me to put my own basics in when saving as html. Could remove blank sheets and put just the letter in the tab at the bottom left of sheet. Return to me as an attachment or can snail mail on a diskette. Subject line should have your typing alpha letter in it. Check your system for viruses so you won't send me a worm or worse in the attachments. ************ Dummies Instructions: Typing is done ON an email message. Subject line should have have your typing alpha letter in it. Have to use SEMI COLONS this time for columns because of the normal use of too many commas in the data You will use 6 semi colons for the 7 columns and a hard return at the end of each line of data. DO NOT SORT!! (haven't decided if I will sort at all cuz are in alpha order generally - easier for courthouse worker to reference if isn't sorted - anyway decision will be later) Study the sample site with the typing samples below and see if you can figure out where the semi colons are going and the hard return for each line. A space or no space around the semi colons won't matter. Prefer no spaces but don't think it will bother a thing if you forget and leave a space. An extra or leftout semi colon WILL make a difference. I will send it back to you to check if you are missing one or two semi colons. Must be 6 semi colons even if there are empty columns. I don't have time to go thru and count your semi colons in each line. http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilmacoup/probate-a/a.htm Name;Name of Administrator,Executor or Guardian;Title;Box;Comments;Index Page No.;Year which index page starts if shown Page of "A"s missing;;;;; Page 1 missing; 1837 ANDREW, Richard;Joseph Andrews, Sr;Administrator;; 4;2;1851 Same heirs of; Same; Guardian;;; 2;1851 ABRAMS, Lewis;Wm J.
