New Publication from the St. Clair County Genealogical Society St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church Census 1888-1895, Belleville St. Peter's was the first parish established within the confines of Belleville in 1842. It became became the Cathedral on 25 April 1888 following the establishment of the Diocese of Belleville the previous year. The parish census was to be compiled every three years, and this first ledger includes two, if not three, censuses taken circa 1888-1895. This parish census helps fill the genealogical void created for the burned 1890 federal census. Included are 895 Belleville area families in St. Clair County, Illinois , 4050 parishioners with birth and marriage dates and places specified, names non-Catholic spouses (99), pewholders (469), converts (24), and schoolchildren (568). Dozens of widow(er)s indicate the names of a deceased spouse and that person's death date. Birth parents are identified for the majority of the 45 adopted or "quasi-adopted" children--a rare find for this time period. Prepublication orders for this 160+ page book are now being taken with printing scheduled for early April 2007. Mail $15.00 (includes postage) to SCCGS-St. Peter's P.O.
