Carol and Linda There is a Ruyle family book in the Edwardsville, Madison, IL public library. It's about either Moses or his parents or grandparents and their descendants who settled in Macoupin and Jersey Cos IL. I know that the late Alfred Ruyle and think it was his daughter Judy who were heavy in the researching the Ruyle family. It's possible that the information regarding Polly Ruyle Arnold came from Judy or someone who had a copy of the book. The Ruyle family did at one time have an annual reunion but I don't know if the descendants still gather. Possibly someone in the Staunton area will know more since I believe it was held in Staunton. I received this information in the year 2000. Here are a few of the e-mails that it was address to at that time. I don't know if any of them are still active. Ed Ruyle, Jr. [email protected]; Achey, Leah. [email protected]; Barnes, Arlyda, [email protected]; Beetel, Donna. [email protected]; and Brown, Jim & Donna. [email protected] I am somewhat related to John Ruyle who may know something about the reunion. He is a son of my Aunt's stepdaughter. He does have e-mail. Tell him Ilene gave you his e-mail address. It is: [email protected] He lives in Alton, IL, so he is in the area where the Ruyle family was from. I hope you will get the information you are seeking. Ilene Jones I received the info below, from a descendant of Floyd... Floyd was born January 9, 1892, as you noted. He married my grandmother, Agnes Marie Dowd, on April 16, 1913, at Saint Edward's Catholic Church in Saint Louis, Missouri. Agnes and Floyd's marriage license is still in the Saint Louis City Archives. Floyd died February, 1966, and was buried March 2, 1966, in Calvary Cemetery in Saint Louis, in Section 30, Lot 213, with his wife, Agnes, and his mother, Agnes (Peet) Walker, who died in August,1968. (Agnes Peet Ruyle married "Grandpa Walker" long after her husband John died. We heard that her husband John Ruyle died of appendicitis, despite an operation on the kitchen table! After that, Agnes moved to Saint Louis with her sons to work.) Agnes Marie Dowd was born October 4, 1893, in Saint Louis. Her father was Thomas F. Dowd, born September 8, 1867-in Boston, we think. Thomas died March 9, 1939. Her mother was Mary Elizabeth Cassin, born August 17, 1868. We think Mary Elizabeth was born in Saint Louis of Irish parents. Mary Elizabeth died January 18, 1917. Thomas never remarried. Thomas and Mary had five girls, including my grandmother. Most are buried with them in the Dowd family plot at Calvary Cemetery in Saint Louis, Section 21, Lot 1865. Floyd and Agnes had seven children. Agnes, Delores, Blanche, Jim and John are still around! Agnes Ruyle, born June 25, 1914 Delores Ruyle Gittemeier, born October 5, 1915, married Maurice Gittemeier. Robert A. Ruyle, born September 18, 1917, married Delores Delaney (who died in 1985), died 1986. Floyd J. Ruyle, born 1920, died March 16, 1921 Blanche Ruyle Peterson, born September 23, 1921 James Leo Ruyle, born June 7, 1924, married Marjorie Ann Newell (born November 25, 1928, died March 28, 1990) on June 25, 1952. John T. Ruyle, born March 28, 1926, married Therese, but I don't recall her maiden name at the moment. They are both still around, doing pretty well. James Leo Ruyle is my father. I'm not sure how much you want to put into your gedcom about the people who are still around, but it may be useful to you, eventually. I have lots of cousins, brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews, and a son (in Ireland, currently). All are descendents of Floyd Albert Ruyle. Can you use these names and their dates, too? I noticed that you do have "private" noted beside some of the names. Is that for the people who are still around? I am still investigating. Slowly but surely, I am building up quite a bit of information! And I will keep you posted! Please let me know if you have any questions! And thank you for all your help in setting up this great database!
