Our funeral director told us to use shaving cream and rinse with water to clean headstones. It worked really well on my parent's stones. Shaving cream leaves behind an oily residue that attracts damaging bacteria and will eventually flake off layers of the stone. The only thing that should be used on a tombstone is plain water.
