Google has a free search engine to historical newspapers, some of which include NewspaperArchive.com (which I believe is part and parcel of Ancestry.com??). The links take you to at least part of the article plus the newspaper title and date which you can then use to get the articles from local or state historical facilities without signing up for the subscription--good if you are on budget. Some of the articles have undergone OCR and consequently have some jumbled words. http://news.google.com/archivesearch I tried it for a couple people of interest - works for me!
