Does anyone on this list know if/how readily Macoupin residents might 'run off' to marry Missouri? If so, is St. Louis the most likely place, or are other counties more likely? Thanks Diane
I don't know about the majority of the population, but my kin settled in Newton County. MO. Check around the Joplin and Neosho areas, when you are doing your research. You might also check around Phelps and Texas Counties in MO. My Reagan/Ragan ancestry went into Phelps and Texas Counties during the Civil War, and then back to Macoupin County, with some staying in Phelps County, MO. WIlliam Scroggins and Olly Best, both probably living in Omph Ghent but from families associated with Dorchester and Staunton, were married at Portage des Sioux, St. Charles County, Missouri, 26 Nov 1849. Olly, who died in January 1852, is buried in Staunton, William is at Tine Sawyer.
I just ran across this old email and wonder if you have an A.C. Scroggins in your line. I have more names but don't recall them off hand. He came from Arkansas and I know he lived in Stigler Oklahoma. He was an Uncle of mine. Tom Hughes [email protected] ----- Original Message ----- From: "John M. Hello Everyone, I am new to this list. I had an Aunt that lived in the Knox and Warren County, Illinois area. When she got married they went to Hannibal, Missouri. She died before I found this out so I never got a chance to ask her why they did that. Have a good day.
