    1. Re: [ILMACOUP] Benld City and Bunker Hill Cemetery maps?

    3. There used to be an elderly gentleman that would come into the downtown bank for a couple of hours each day to "work". Don't know his position, but he was old and had a map that looked as old. I was there a few years ago, and he was able to locate my great-grandparents on the map. 1. Re: [ILMACOUP] Benld City and Bunker Hill Cemetery maps?

    3. Gloria What surnames are being searched for in Bunker Hill Cemetery?  My grandfather was the caretaker of the cemetery back in the 1950's and I often walked the cemetery when he was there and have walked it many times since.  I may recognize the names and be able to tell where the lots are. I inquired about the map several years ago from one of the board members and was told the same story.  In the past year or so, one board member died, one lost her husband and the other is in poor health from what I understand too.  I have no idea who they got to replace the deceased member, but know that the other two board members are in their 80's.  One lives just down the road from my mother.  I told the librarian several years ago that they should try to get a copy of the map for use in the genealogy area since the listing of burials provides the lots and would save phone calls to the board members as well as giving people an idea as to where to go when they leave the library.  I guess either the board members didn't approve it or were not approached with the request.  I just may call the one board member and see if she can help get a copy of the map to the library.  If not, perhaps I can get approval to go to the office and draw up something which can be placed at the library. 3. Does anyone know of a stone map for Benld City and/or Bunker Hill Cemeteries? ======================= I am looking for maps and locations for a couple family members in Benld Cemetery. Do you know where I could go for this? I am also working on Bunker Hill. I spoke to someone on the cemetery board who says there is only 1 big map on a wall in an office that they rarely visit. 1. [ILMACOUP] MCGS newsletter
    2. Chuck & Cindy Leonard
    3. In today's mail I received the latest Macoupin County Searcher. It is a great issue as usual. Mary takes the information provided by others and the information she so diligently digs up and puts together a great read. Without Jarid's help, it wouldn't arrive in the mail. He prints the mailing labels, sorts the newsletters, prints the postage billing and heads to the Post Office to get the news to the members. Sometimes he is involved in taking the newsletter to the printer and picking it up when Mary is not in the area. My personal thanks to both of them for their hard work. Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at Staunton Family Restaurant. In a few days, I will send out a more complete notice. If there is a topic you want us to bring up at the meeting, please contact me or one of the board members or if you are in the area, come join us. Have a safe and happy July 4th! More later. Cindy Leonard, President Macoupin County Genealogical Society

    3. Dear Gloria: Every thing you say is right, Jenny. We are lucky to still have that source and that dedication. Until my husband's health halted my time for travel, my daughter and I have spent LOTS of time with the Allen's--both on line and in Salt Lake City. We used to go together with a group for a week at the Library. We were more novice genealogists at the time, but gaining skills rapidly. She finally threw up her hands and declared "no more Allen's", simply on sheer frustration. I have too on several occasions -- but I'm too much of an optimist to toss--I do bury, however--but it just keeps popping up regardless. I am sending Gloria a 4 page print-out of my research on my 2 earliest Allen generations. It is all my own research except for the noted ** areas which were sent to me. Because none of that information came with any documentation, I used lower case and asterisks to differentiate it in my own research. I've since lost contact with the donor, but I don't want to be responsible for passing information without permission. It does seem strange that with all the Allen's reposing in Macoupin County that Eveline Hall Allen's death record cannot be found, though her grave and obit are available. I so much need to know her parentage, because Hall is big in the area as well as Allen. She just pops from nowhere into that Allen household in 1850 and her death is just as silent and as mysterious. I have a photo that I think is surely Eveline, because the features are different than the Allen likenesses I've seen--and the time frame, hair and clothing are appropriate. It's bizarre to be IN then OUT so silently. In sending this, I'm hoping that within, there is a trigger-clue that those familiar with both the local Genie Society and County repository will provide an extra boost. Daughter and I have been fooling around with this as you can see for at least 10 years--off site. Maybe that's the reason. For a while Lula V. was helping me --she was my "bird-dog" on scene, responsible for both gravestone photo and obit, for which I am so grateful. I hope there's a kernel in it. I've done a lot of IL research because I have 3 Illinois Prairie Pioneer surnames: Joel BACON, Seth CHIPMAN and Henry MILLER. From James' sons, we have everything through Eveline's daughter Libby to the present. I only include 2nd generations here, however. I'm not good at forwarding, so I will copy and paste to is message. 2. Jan Miller
    3. All, I am interested in this surname, this time period and this location between Apple and Macoupin Creeks also. I have a James and Delia [Davis] Allen and with all the Allen's that are possible, still have not been able to find the exact date of James and Delia's arrival in the county, their parents or relatives--probably relatives. One of their 2 sons was my husband's great grandfather, but both surnames are so popular --as is the common given name--it is very hard to sort, and my best information is James' birth date, which he gave correctly on each subsequent census. It was April 13, 1813 -- near Louisville, KY If this bears any similarity to the information you're referring to, may I ask to be copied as well. I don't think"buttinsky"s are very considerate generally, but in the case of genealogy, maybe that can be softened a little? I apologize in advance. I have filed my Allen data in the back of the cabinet so many times, it's getting frowsy. Thanks in advance! Jan in California. ----- Original Message ----- From: "jenny burgin" <jenny.burgin@sbcglobal.net> To: <ilmacoup@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, June 30, 2009 8:03 PM Subject: Re: [ILMACOUP] Surnames Allen and Coffman > Gloria, I am also interested in Littleton Bradley Allen research page > also. > I have an Emily Allen daughter to Thomas Davis Allen.
