    3. Gloria Don't ruffle the feathers yet.  Here's what I see on the situation of the article - There is a clause at the bottom of the Illinois Labor History Society's page as - NOTICE: This material may be freely used by non-commercial entities for educational and/or research purposes as long as this message remains on all copied material. These electronic pages cannot be reproduced in any format for profit or other presentation without the permission of The Macoupin County ILGenWeb Project. Since the Society is an educational entity it can reproduce the article and as the clause states has included the clause on the same page.  Per copyright guidelines this is all permissible. If the Society's webmaster would have changed the format or if the Society would have reprinted the article and sold it or used it at meetings then your permission as coordinator would have been required. Thus, the Illinois Labor History Society has done no wrong although it would have been considerate on their part had they consulted you first before including it on their website or just have made reference to it in a link which would have taken the site visitor to IL Gen Web's Macoupin Co site. 1. [ILMACOUP] On-line maps at the Newberry Library in Chicago, IL
    2. Newberry Library in Chicago has posted their Atlases of Historical County Boundaries online - _http://www.newberry.org/ahcbp/_ (http://www.newberry.org/ahcbp/) - - only Georgia and Tennessee are without entries at this time. The online version overlays the historical boundaries on the current boundaries (unless you turn "modern counties" off). The best part is you select the date and the database does the rest. This is a great research tool and it is FREE. 2. Thanks, Linda, It looks like I messed up a cut & paste, that the last entry with Month & year of birth, between the xxxxxxxxxxx, belongs at the end of the 1900 Census, not at the end of the 1910. I sure do not know what happenend to them, they were in Macoupin in 1910, in their 70's, and I do not find either one on the death index for Macoupin or Montgomery. Of course, my own GrGrandmother died in the hospital at Litchfield in 1911 and there is no death record, either. Sharon On 29 Jul 2009 at 19:01, Linda Kmiecik wrote: Hi, Thanks. 3. Kathie >From what I know from my husband's gr-gr-grandfather getting land in the 1850's in Southeast Missouri, the government offered land as a way of payment for military service.  It's possible that your James Huskey had this situation placed before him.  The government didn't give you a choice of where the land was, but just simply told you where it was at.  Then it was your responsibility to travel there and make the necessary arrangements.  Also, some certificates were not issued until the land had either been settled or had been paid for in full.  The currency used at the time was whatever was being used by the country at that time.  No one state had its own currency.  It wasn't until the Civil War that there was a separate currency of which neither the Union or the Confederate currencies were good in the other jurisdiction although the Union's was always good in those states which succeeded from the Union.  After the end of the Civil War even the Confederate currency wasn't being accepted by many of the business owners in the South. To see what the currency looked like, check out a coin and currency pricing book.  Many of them do have small black and white photos of the old coins and paper currencies.  I would imagine that some of the larger libraries would have them or perhaps a google search may show some as long as you know the names that coin/currency collectors use or by which they were referred to in their time. 1. [ILMACOUP] Back to School and Genealogy!
    2. Back to School and Genealogy! Remember that New Years resolution you made to organize your genealogy notes, letters, computer print outs, etc. Now is the time to buy the supplies. Over the next few month there will be many Back to School sales. You can use these items for organizing your genealogy records. Check your newspaper for sales and COUPONS. They have notebook paper, 3 ring binders, and spiral notebooks on sale. Another good item is the kid's assignment calendars - these are great for keeping track of "TO DO" lists. Look for stackable file boxes - they are plastic - not too large - and you can easily carry them around. Take a trip to the store and see what may help solve some of your organizational problems. Set a timer for 10 to 15 minutes each day and use that time to file and organize your papers. If I only listened to my own advice!!!
