Hi, I would like to resubmit my query on the Duncans. Hope someone out there can help me. I am looking for the parents and/or siblings of WILLIAM DUNCAN b. ca. 1822 in NC, died <1885 in Illinois. Have the feeling that he and the Farrars lived in IN for a while before moving to IL. He married 23 Aug 1847, Macoupin Co. IL SARAH ELIZABETH FARRAR b. ca 1828 IN, d. 3 Mar 1896 IL. They lived in Clyde IL - now Hornsby. They were the parents of WESLEY, WILLIAM, LOUISE, JAMES NEWTON AND LORETTA DUNCAN I can't find where and when William died, even though family says he died in Litchfield IL there is no record that he is buried there. Sarah E. died in E. St. Louis and they took her back to Litchfield to be buried, which would have been very expensive and difficult in 1896. Would appreciate it if anyone could at least point me in the right direction in finding William's parents, siblings, and/or date and place of death. Thanks for any help you can give me. I will gladly share. There seem to be Kinders all around in the census and in the cemeteries that I have researched. Thanks and God bless, Marilyn
Hi there! I just want to say how much I enjoy looking at all of the ILMACOUP information on the web. I belong to several surname lists and have yet to see anything directly related to my family research... However, on the ILMACOUP, I continue to find interesting items... New picture: Mt Olive School District 60 south of Palmyra Macoupin County IL Taken 1912 Submitted by Mary McKenzie http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilmacoup/m_picmto.htm The picture referenced earlier shocked me quite a bit! I read at the bottom of the picture and realized that it was loaned to the newspaper by my grandfather who is still living. I'm sure that he remembers most, if not all of the people in the picture since many of them are his siblings and/or cousins. He continues to be a wealth of information in my research. If you notice, the little blond haired boy in the front row is listed as Willie Best, my grandfather! Thanks very much to all for the information on the web! Aaron Shipley P.S. To check out a more current picture of Willie Best (we know him as W.G. and call him Gramp!) surf to: http://www.karmak.com/bestharbor/
I wrote: > I am also trying to determine who the James READER was who was a grain merchant in Nilwood circa 1880. OOPS! I guess I read more than was there! In the archives it only has a reference to a "J Reader and Company", grain merchants in Nilwood in 1880. Still, this could be James. Don Reader St. Louis, MO e-mail: readerd@storz.com
Does any one have any information on these two READER listings which I found in the USGenWeb Archives (IL) under "Honor Roll of Veteran Burials Index (Surnames N through R) in Macoupin County IL"? I am trying to determine if they might be related to my READER family which lived primarily in Western Mound Township. The village of READER was named after my great-grandfather George W. READER who sold the land to the railroad for a depot. Here are the entries which I found: READER, Cyrus C , W-1, Pfc , Army, Co M 129 Inf 33 Div , 23 Aug 1951, Woodburn Cemetery Bunker Hill Twp Bunker Hill IL READER, John , C, Pvt , Army, Co. H 121 Ind Inf , 3 Apr 1872, Rural Cemetery Shaws Point Twp Carlinville IL I am also trying to determine who the James READER was who was a grain merchant in Nilwood circa 1880. I am missing information on a James H. READER, brother of my 2G-grandfather Paschal L. READER, listed in our family bible as born in 1823 but nothing else is known about him. There is a curious listing for a marriage license issued to James READER and a Rebecca BOOTH in Macoupin County, but no date is apparent in the index. According to my cousin Sue (Raffurty) McMurry (descendent of James RAFFERTY also of Macoupin Co.) the register book referenced in the index would put the license issue date circa 1872. My grandfather, Ernest READER, always wondered about this (the Nilwood grain dealer) before he passed away in 1981 and it would be nice to clear this up. Thanks for any help on this or any other READER info. Also, FYI, my Dad, siblings and I are the only descendents of George W. READER living today. G.W. passed away in Staunton in 1930. He had three children, Nellie (married Ollie SAWYER, no children), Irvin (married Bessie SHELTON and was South Otter supervisor, but no children), and my grandfather Ernest READER (married a Duluth, MN girl) who only had one child, E. Gordon READER (my Dad). Don Reader St. Louis, MO e-mail: readerd@storz.com
Awhile back, I offered to look up obits at the IL State Historical Library. I ended up with requests from seven different people. I did go, a week ago Friday (ouch!), and I got thru four or five of the requests. I will try to get back to the library in a few weeks, and wrap these up. I apologize for not getting responses out yet. It has been difficult to make enough time for the ILMACOUP site, and even now I'm up much later than I should be on a school night... Please bear with me, and I will respond when I can. Hopefully this week. I just can't take any more requests at this time. I still have a few of these requests left to do, and I only had an hour or so for my own work. Thanks, EA
As is inevitable, I would like to organize some things differently on the ILMACOUP site. I would like to begin using "long" file names as I go. Gloria has only used "8.3" file names so far. The advantage to this is that DOS or Windows 3.1 users can save files from the site to their PC without long names getting "cut off." The disadvantage is that you have files with names that can be next to meaningless. If you save files from the ILMACOUP site to a DOS or Win 3.1 PC, please let me know ASAP. If I don't get any requests otherwise, I will begin using long file names. If I am not making any sense, please advise and I will try to explain further. Also, if and when I make any major changes to the organization of contributed materials, I will try to send an FYI to the original contributor(s). I don't want to put anyone off, just to make things easier for myself. Thanks, EA

Hi, I was wondering if anyone on the list might be familiar with a Jacob and Agnes Walker. They appear on the 1840 and 1850 census for Madison Co. IL. Before that I believe that they lived in Dickson Co., TN (listed on 1820 and 1830 census for that county). I know that they had a bunch of children - their eldest son I'm sure was a John Mclean/Mclane (not sure of spelling) Walker who lived in both Madison and Macoupin Counties, IL. married to a Dinah Moore in 1838. Any help on this family would be appreciated. I'm trying to connect my James Walker (b:abt 1818 TN) to this family - he named a son Jacob and a daughter Agnes. Thank you, Judy York Kron1636@aol.com
There was a Zacharia August TURNER who married Mary Jane VANBEBBER on Augut 9, 1891 in Macoupin County. The marriage record states Zacharia was the son of W.C. TURNER and Eliza SANDERS. On the 1910 census of Macoupin County they had two children: Nellie - 1892 and William - 1894. Does anyone know the complete name of W.C. TURNER and have information on their two children Nellie and William? Gary R. Hawpe.......San Diego, CA.
Where can I buy a copy of Tombstone Revelations, Vol. 1??
Faith, There is a such a book. I do not recall the name, but I believe that it was published by the Macoupin county Genealogical Society. I found it in the library. Hello all. Was wondering if anyone out there could see if there is a listing in either Sangamon or Macoupin County for a Joel M. WITHROW? Thanks so much for any help you might provide. Charlie Neff
Thank you so much for the help. Both of you. I did not have the 1860 census, nor do I have the 1870 if you do, would you look for both Seaton and Clifton? The 14 year old John, and the Zarilda with Lydia Seaton are the Cliftons! Is there a cemetery book for Macoupin County that might tell where the Seatons, John & Lydia are buried, or if Benjamin & Lydia Clifton are buried there? I'm begining to think the Cliftons took William, and left the two others behind! Thank you very much for all your help. Faith
Anyone got World Family Tree Volumes 4,5,7,10,11,12,13,and/or 14 to do some lookups for me? If you do, please answer privately. I know about Hoffman's CD lookup site. Thot I would try here first. Mary Ann, Thanks for answering. This is a huge mystery for me, and my interested cousins. The William J. Seaton (1833-1870) is the uncle of my gg grandmother, who was appointed her guardian, as well as her brother's. She was Zerilda Ann Clifton, (1845 Nilwood) and her brother was John Wesley Clifton (1846 Nilwood). They each inherited 100.00 from their grandfather John Seaton's estate. I don't think that was a small sum back then. Besides William, there was a wife or sister of John Sr., Lydia b. 1794 PA, and two other children Mary 1832 & John 1837. The census shows all three Seaton children born in OH, but they appear on the 1840 & 1850 census in IL. The mystery is not knowing what happened to the Clifton's, and a brother William Clifton who is not there in Nilwood, nor on the guardianship papers, appears in WV where he joins the Cav during the Civil War, and after settles down in Steubenville, OH. His records show him as having been born in Nilwood. I don't know who the William Seaton who was in the Civil War was, or Wells Seaton also buried there, and there's a Oren Lewis Seaton d. 1938 at Great Lakes Training Center in IL, buried Girard Cemetery. Or where the rest of the Seatons went to, or are buried. The answers to my puzzle are somewhere there in Macoupin Co, but being in WY, this is really frustrating! I appreciate any crumb of information. Faith
There are a few CARTERs including an Edward in Montgomery County. If interested check the Montgomery County USGenWeb page.
