    3. I use a great little seach tool called - Web Ferrett. It is shareware and you can download it from: http://www.ferretsoft.com/netferret/index.html follow the download instructions. This will go out and search all of the other seach engines and bring back up to 500 matches. -- Debi Fort Myers, FL df620@gate.net - - - - - - - - - Funny, I don't remember being absent minded.

    1. [ILMACOUP-L] More photos, please
    2. cliftongeo
    3. One of the best things about the Macoupin site is the photos! I would like to be the first to ask for photos of relatives, rather that information (which is scarce for nonrelatives). There are lots of photos of friends and neighbors in family collections. I would like to ask that people check for members of the following families from the Virden area, circa 1860 onward: Robinett, Poindexter, Bronaugh, Clark Thanks in advance, Gary Clifton

    3. Then you should be able to accept that THEY have no brain and could use more people like you to find all the errors? Misleading - that there are abt 400 pages on the Macoupin site. Maybe a couple thousand or so. Boy, I thought if I lost that whole list of names for K-M "over here" in one of the piles, I was going to cry. The list was there, just no link. Fixed the link at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilmacoup/burials/honor.htm for letters K through M at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilmacoup/burials/honork.txt Can't understand, tho, if the page was there all the time why the search engine won't pick up Loney off of the Honor Roll K-M page. Doesn't make sense that the search engine would need the index page???? Thinking out loud. 3. ...should have been, yep, I am on my way. Hope this is the problem. Because of my many changes lately with links and subdirectories on the Macoupin page, there are two broken links I found so far on the cemetery page at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilmacoup/cem.htm This one: Obituary Index - submit your old Macoupin Obituaries, read others should be: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilmacoup/obits/m_obitx.htm and this one Macoupin County Honor Roll Veterans' Burials should be: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilmacoup/burials/honor.htm I think Kathleen has these pages to fix. If not, I will get the links fixed soon. Better bookmark for the meantime. Thanks. 3. Robert, Walshville township is in Montgomery county, just east of Staunton township and Mt. Olive township. I have a photocopy of a picture that once appeared in the Staunton Star-Times of the front of the Binney train station itself. It has a William. Clark and J. A. Schwartz standing in front of it. The caption says it was taken February 1917. Its interesting that in the Madison co. 1920 census (Olive Twp) some of my family ties, were neighbors of Walter, Margaret, John, Charles and Robert Binney. It says on New Douglas Rd. My tie was Christina (nee Elstrodt) Hurst. I haven't seen any Bissells listed in the area cemeteries, but will look around at some of my notes. What was Binney Station is several miles into Madison co. The station is no longer there. You can order a copy of whats in the naturalization record from Elsie Wasser, 7430 Leslie Dr., Edwardsville, IL 62026. It has that he filed the intention and second papers on the same day so he was either a Civil war vet or a minor when he filed. It doesn't list what record book his naturalization was found in. I think Elsie now charges $3.00 for a look up. I don't have an old Montgomery co. plat book, but will Email a friend, who might. I'll let you know if we run across the Bissell name. Mary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yes. That is my connection. Just recently, I received a copy of the RR route thru Binney from a RR historical soc. They also sent copies of the station plans and bldg. I had known of their existence, as well as the family cemetery for some time, but when I visit the area this year I won't know exactly how to find any of them. I also have a grave inventory done by Cindy Leonard. Unfortunately, there's no evidence yet as to where my ggrandparents, Herman and Mary BISSELL, were laid to rest. Their son Luther married into the Binney family. What is new in your msg is Walter BINNEY's date of naturalization. Thanks so much for that info which IRAD declared as not recorded. While on the subject of locale, I'm hoping that I can find where Herman farmed in Walsh twp. But I believe it is Montg. Co. Would those persons happen to be mentioned in your reference? You are a good person and so are lots of others who do lookups and posts. Robert

    3. Beni, Macoupin County Genealogical Society is releasing an index to Holy Cross Cemetery at Gillespie shortly. It is at the printer now. Price is yet to be set. Probably $10 - $12. Perhaps you know our cemetery publications chairman, Jill Talley Secoy of Gillespie. The genealogical society has published many of the cemeteries of southern Macoupin county. The Historical society at Carlinville has published cemeteries in the upper two thirds of the county. Mary ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- All the coal-mining towns in Southern Illinois, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, etc., attracted immigrants, many of them Lithuanians in the early century. I belong to a Lithuanian geneological list and have volunteered to look up and record Lithuanian names from the cemeteries in Macoupin County, especially Gillespie where I grew up. I have two questions: Is there any information in the historical society in Carlinville about the Lithuanians. I have a feeling they were probably lumped together with Poles and Russians and their identity as Lithuanians was lost. Secondly, I don't relish going to the cemetery and writing down all the Lithuanian names (Holy Cross cemetery is probably over 1/3 Lithuanian). I'm lazy. so, I'm wondering if there is a published list of all the people buried in the various surrounding cemeteries. Thanks for listening. Check this one at: ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/il/macoupin/vitals/birth-a.txt where I changed the url from: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilmacoup/birthdex.htm to: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilmacoup/vitals/birthdex.htm (All of the births are now also on the Macoupin page.) An unknown picture submitted is listed on the picture index page: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilmacoup/m_pic.htm as Where is this cemetery? The file is at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilmacoup/m_pic-u.htm If I miss announcements to the list of new stuff on the Macoupin page, please don't hesitate to let the list know. Someone may be waiting for that piece of info therefore helping you, too. I need all Macoupin family/other reunions for this year so I can put a list on the main page. We could use some more proofreaders for the 1860 Macoupin Census. A good way to pay for this free information is to proofread a few pages. I want to thank our current set of 1860 census proofreaders: Carolynn Bettis <bettis@ctllc.com> Robert Bissell <r2macb@webtv.net> Robert Commagere <rcommage@ix.netcom.com> Jack Cox <jack_cox@kc.net> Shirley Dawson <bd.sd@townsqr.com> Sharon Haennelt <shaen@jps.net> Sue McMurry <sumcm@worldnet.att.net> Bernita J Riechmann <bjbond@agtelco.com> Yvonne Stedman <stedman@westsound.com> I am batting zero on the url for an IL query site which was found on AOL but can't find it otherwise. Someone mentioned this one as a possibility: http://searches.rootsweb.com/roots-l.html Now, with my huge salary in hand, will check out the highly paid employees who are filling my inbox with proofread 1860 typing. 3. Ok, I put the birth index in a subdirectory called vitals so the url now is: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilmacoup/vitals/birthdex.htm Better bookmark it until I get the archives pages changed to reflect the subdir name "vitals." And/or let me know where else the birth index url coding needs changed if you spot it in other places besides the archives. I think you will run into more dead links as I am putting more files in subdirs so let me know when you run into dead links on the Macoupin page. Sorry about that.
