    1. Re: [ILMACOUP-L] Naturalization Loose Papers
    2. Tom Bunt
    3. My grandfather filed for naturalization in the Macoupin county court house. Maybe the court house has a book listing all those who filed in this particular legal category. Now, I believe, those petitions must be filed with the federal government at federal district court. So, a Macoupin county search will narrow your focus somewhat. 2. Mark Strohbeck
    3. I just noticed that my gg grandfather Robert WATT's name is found among those listed in naturalization loose papers at: ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/il/misc/naturalization/natural.txt I am not clear how to pursue this. The instructions say that IRAD will not search through these loose papers unless I have a date. The date of naturalization is one of the things I am looking for:-( Kind of a catch 22 here. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks. Mark W. Strohbeck

    1. [ILMACOUP-L] Message for WORD 97 users from Kathie Mirabella
    2. Hi, Below is a message that we received at work (PSE&G in New Jersey - a gas and electric company) today from PSE&G Corporate Communications. If you use WORD 97 you may want to make the below changes. Happy Hunting, Kathie Mirabella Macoupin County Mail List Manager ************************************************************************** Information Security Bulletin - Melissa Macro Virus The Melissa Macro virus is reported by news services as spreading throughout the Internet over the weekend. This virus is known to impact Office 97 users, with no known cases impacting Office 95 users. The Melissa Macro Virus is usually contained in an e-mail message that has the subject line "Important message from ..." followed by the sender's name. The body of the message says "Here is the document you asked for ... don't show anyone else". Do not open any attachments from email messages that fit this description as they probably contain the Melissa Macro virus!!!. Delete these messages. If you feel the message may be a valid message, contact the sender and verify that they are valid. If you are still not sure, forward the message to the Corporate Security mailbox (Enter Security, Corporate as the last name) so that it can be checked for the virus. Information Technology is working with our antiviral vendor to automatically scan for this virus. A solution is expected shortly. In addition, be wary of documents sent from any senders asking you to open up a file for Microsoft Word, that also asks whether you want to initiate a macro. You may also send these to the Corporate Security mailbox to be checked. Word 97 Users If you are a Word 97 user, to make sure you are protected from macro viruses, perform the following: 1. Start Word. 2. Choose the Tools, Options command, General tab. 3. Check the Macro Virus Protection check box if it is not already checked. 4. Check the Confirm conversions at open check box if it is not already checked. 5. Choose the save tab. 6. Check the Prompt to save Normal template check box. 7. Click the OK button to close the dialog box. Whenever you open a document that contains macros, you will be notified that there are macros in the document. You should only open a document with macros if you are expecting there to be macros on that document and you know what they are supposed to do.

    1. [ILMACOUP-L] Staunton Star-Times Obit Index 1958 - Part 1
    2. Joan Miley
    3. I will post the 1958 Obit list in 4-Parts in alpha order with surname first. I have more than birth & death dates on most of these persons so if anyone would like info on any of these they can send me an email request personally. Other info might include (if it was available in obit): Place of death & birth, Spouse, marriage date, cemetery, & funeral home or where services were held, parents, & if there were children or siblings listed in obit. Some of these obits just gave age at death (yr, mo, da) instead of date of birth so in order to have a birthdate, I used a birthdate calculator on the Internet to come up with birthdate. This 'might' cause the 'day' of birth to be off by 1 day. If the obit gave the age as # of years old only, the birthdate will be listed as: Abt (then approximate yr of birth). If you see 'N/G' in the place of the birthdate, that means the age was not given in the obit. Also, if the female was married, the index will include both her maiden & married name. The '*' after the surname denotes her married name. Staunton Star-Times Obit Index 1958 - Part 1 Ackerman *, Etta Alberini, Primo Albertini, Rosa M. Alsop, Mabel L. Altevogt, Louise C. 3. I am reluctant to pass on virus info because so much of it is bogus. However, this one (Melissa) is apparently not. It is hitting the morning news. It involves an eMail message - usually from someone you know. In the eMail is a message saying "Here is the info you asked for . . . don't show anyone else." There is a list1.doc attached. Don't open it. It can use your eMail address list to send out 50 eMail copies of itself. It doesn't damage the local computer, but can sure overburden servers and use up your time and disk space. http://www.avertlabs.com/public/datafiles/valerts/vinfo/melissa.asp For what it's worth . . . 3. Hi! RE the Honor Roll of Veterans' Burials in Macoupin Co., IL. This spot is just wonderful! Is this just done for Illinois or just for Macoupin County or what? It seemed like it was done for all of Illinois but is the government going to put all counties' lists on the internet? Or is each county web site responsible for their own? Does anyone know of ANY site like this for all of the US veterans? Thanks, Joanne at erictem@earthlink.net
