Hi everyone, Quite a while back some kind soul looked up my Thomas NEFF in the 1850 Census records. At the time he was living with another family in Sangamon County. I have lost the message but I think the message indicated that he was living with the Grissano family from TN or KY... Is there anyone out there who might be able to confirm this information for me. I would be very grateful. The only info on the census record that I did manage to save is: On the 1850 SANGAMON CO., ILLINOIS Census there is: NEFF, Thomas no township listed page 156 On the 1860, SANGAMON CO., ILLINOIS Census NEFF S. # 749 T: WILLIAMSVILLE P. O NEFF T. # 506 T: CHATHAM P. O Regards, Charlie _______________________________________________________________________ * Charles A. I have been agonizing over this Duncan stuff and some more documents that I had previously and have found some answers, of course new questions as well. About Elizabeth , Absalom, Nathan and John R. Duncan What are your sources for Elizabeth and Nathan as children of Absolom Duncan and Patsy Bynum, please. Might it not be just as likely that Nathan, John R. & Absalom were brothers and Elizabeth the daughter of one of the many other Duncans in Lincoln Co. NC at that time? I find An Absalom or two or three in Lincoln Co in 1800, 1810, 1820, 1830, 1840. Our Absalom with Franklin are in Alton, Madison Co. in 1840. The Geo. W. Duncan who signed for Elizabeth in 1878 has to be the son of Nathan, and he says he is a nephew of Absalom and Elizabeth. He could have been a nephew of either one of them and still been called nephew to both. Do you have more than this to think Elizabeth and Nathan were sister and brother? The Nathan who also witnessed could be her bro. or son in 1856, both were probably living in Macoupin. I have an affidavit of decease for John R. Duncan, which names all his children and wife Uly Ann Killon, so that helps to straighten out some of the families. I also have their Marriage bond from Lincoln NC Oct 1, 1807. I'll send you copies if you don't have them. I think I got them from Mildred Milliken of De Whitt AR, or Marilyn Duncan, I've lost her address. Have you corresponded with either of them? Wish I could help with placing your Susannah. I find Catherine, wife of Nathan burried with Franklin and wife Elizabeth, which leads me to believe strongly that Nathan was Franklin's bro. and as James Caulk is one of the witnesses to Elizabeth's depositions, I feel his wife Martha P. Duncan also belongs in that family too. Anyway, I'm very happy to have proof of Franklins parents, I'' be eternally grateful for that proof. Thanks, Katharine PS Have you ever had access to the Biography of Dr. Wesley Duncan? I have not seen it, but would like to.

There has been talk about the accuracy of the LDS files that have been made available on the INTERNET recently. Just remember ALL documents, databases and books have mistakes. But, these are great places to begin your search. Documents also have mistakes. My own birth certificate is a perfect example. My mother's maiden name is incorrect on my birth certificate. It list Sheldon her stepfather's name. Her maiden name is Hamley. I now have a two page birth certificate - first page is the original with Sheldon and second contains the corrections - Hamley. If someone should find only the first page they would have the wrong information. My baptism and marriage certificate are correct. My sister's birth certificate is correct. When I was about 20 my grandmother had my California birth certificate corrected - this is why it is now two pages. My grandmother who did this was my father's mother - no one else cared about having it corrected. So unless you have DNA proof - question ALL documents, books and databases. You should verify all of your direct ancestors. Happy Hunting, Kathie Mirabella
Researchers, The main thing I really want is to learn the identity of the first wife of Alexander CARRICO. He would have been married after 1850 and perhaps before 1855. They had a child, Mary J. CARRICO, born ca. 1857, according to the 1860 census. An unknown female child was indicated in the 1855 census, as I mention below. Mary J. CARRICO is not seen after 1870, probably due to marriage. Was there a 1865 or 1875 state census of Illinois? If so, where can one be viewed? John D. Sissom - JDSissom@JUNO.COM member: Wood Co Chap OGS sola fide
My Samuel Rhoads came to Macoupin County, along with his father and five brothers, about 1832 and settled at Medora. His first wife died there 1 September 1834, and Samuel married Frances Keele, in Greene County on 28 February 1836. Frances supposedly died in MN 24 February 1863, while the family was visiting, or had moved to MN. Samuel returned to Macoupin County and married (3) elizabeth Ables, widow of Armested Ables. Samuel died 16 September 1877 in Macoupin County, but I have not found any estate record or grave for him. The old Rhoads Cemetery just outside of Medora is badly overgrown, but we were unable to find a stone there. Can anyone help me determine where Samuel is buried? I am also interested in any Rhoads information about any of the members of the family. Al Rhods Madison, AL

My great-grandmother was living near Woodburn in Macoupin Co. when she was divorced ca 1883. As the subject was taboo at the time, don't know if she would have been divorced in St. Louis, if the laws would have permitted that, or not. She later remarried in Brooklyn, New York, still returning to live at Woodburn. About twenty years ago, I got a copy of this later marriage license, in person, and saw the original record which shows her as being divorced. When the clerk made the "official" sealed copy, it states "never married before." So much for official records!
One of our Macoupin County researchers living in Macoupin has a son flying in Kosovo. Yes, he and you are in our prayers. And, yes, I support our military. Thanks, for letting me know about your son. "My son is flying in Kosovo right now. He is an F-16 pilot and has seen lots of action this week! He saw the first MIG shot down and was working in the tower the night the F17 came down. It was the plane of his good friend who lives in NM. Luckily Ken was not in the plane on this mission. He is about to get out to fly commercial. My boy is stationed in Germany as a rule. I am so very proud of him and excited for him too. He has trained for almost ten years for just this sort of mission. Keep him in your prayers please. I know that you had served as well. No matter how people feel about our being there, they should back the military in every way." I know there is a lot out on the net about these viruses but just making sure here by sending info at the bottom of this msg. I am not a guru so you need to check at some official sites. Melissa virus is not a hoax. The virus is in the form of a .doc extension attachment, they say. Do not open the attachment. happy99.exe is not a hoax. This is a pretty fireworks, they say. Do not open the attachment. Both can be received by you and sent by you and you won't know you have it or have sent it on until someone tells you. I have recd two happy99.exe, luckily "on" an email and not as an attachment so didn't infect anything. The first person didn't know they had it and have it cleaned up now. I haven't had time to tell the second person. I am sure they don't know they sent it. Below is the stuff on melissa. (A note: "they say" the person who created melissa has been caught.) Both are fixable so not to panic. Yes, you need virus checkers. McAfee or Norton are good checkers. I have both and run my attachments thru them before opening. Gloria - ------------------------------ To: The Screen Savers <<mailto:the_screen_savers@mail.zdlists.com Date: Saturday, March 27, 1999 10:26 PM Subject: The Screen Savers Today - Urgent Extra Hi, this is Leo writing to you with an urgent virus warning. We don't normally send you mail on Sundays, but there's a new email virus we thought you should know about, not because it's destructive, but because it spreads so rapidly. This virus can affect anyone who uses Microsoft Word. And if you use Outlook 97 or 98 as your email program, you could be spreading it unwittingly. The virus is a Word macro virus called Melissa. As currently propagated, it arrives in your email as a message with the subject "Important Message from" and the name of someone you may well know. The body of the message contains "Here is that document you asked for ... don't show anyone else ;-)". The virus payload is contained in an attached Microsoft Word document. Don't open that Word document! Once you do, if you use Outlook for your email the virus will attempt to send infected messages to the top 50 names in your address book. Those people may also become infected if they open the attached Word document. Because the virus lives in a Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) module, it can easily be moved to any other Microsoft Office product, including Excel, Access, and Powerpoint. The virus is contained the Word document, not the email message itself, so you can't rely on the email message alone as a way to know if you've received the virus. Because this virus immediately sends 50 copies of itself to your friends on activation, we believe it may be the fastest spreading virus we've ever seen. That's why we're taking the unusual step of sending you this message. What to do now: * Don't open email attachments, even if they're from someone you know. It is perfectly safe to read the contents of the email, however (unless you're using Word as your email reader). It's the attached documents that pose a risk. * Update your anti-virus software. Norton Anti-Virus and McAfee both have updates that detect Melissa and prevent infection. If you're using another product check with your vendor for updates. What to do in general: * Always keep your anti-virus product up-to-date * Be careful about opening files attached to email, even if you know the person who sent it.
