Hi All, I had sent this to a lady researching the FRICKE family, and thought I would post here, as well, in case it is of use to anybody else. Do you know where in IL? One branch of my family was in Macoupin Co., IL (about 50 miles from St. Louis), and there were FRICKE's there (believe they were German, as was my family). Some, from the book, "Cemeteries at Mt. Olive, Macoupin Co. IL". FRICKE, Hartwig W. 1884-1962 , Helen L. 1887 - 1978 (w/o H. W.) , Albert 1876 - 1893 , Christop 1873 - 1893 , Dora 1879 - 1953 , Friedericke 1840 - 1894 , Hartwig 1849 - 1920 , Dorothee 1858 - 1944 (ssw/H0 , J. H. 1838 - 1901 , Marie D. 1851 - 1935 (ssw/ J H) Dori Fricke was a witness to the marriage of my Gr.Grandmother. I have no known connection to the Fricke family, but hope this is of some help to you. Good luck. Sharon Buethner

Waaallll, if you are sitting in the air conditioning and you need something to do and think you can do the following, I will send you 10 or so lines. Getting tedious. Copy and paste, paste, paste..... I have done 30 so lines and thot I would holler. Quite a few lines to do. Some are short lines. Many are long like the one below. This is the original line: BUCK, SUTER, RICHARDSON, LANDRETH/LANDRITH, CURRY, HAYES, THOMPSON, AYERS, VANCIL, GASTON (297) Using the number at the end of each line I need the same line to look like this with spacing, numbers, and commas. BUCK (297), SUTER (297), RICHARDSON (297), LANDRETH/LANDRITH (297), CURRY (297), HAYES (297), THOMPSON (297), AYERS (297), VANCIL (297), GASTON (297), No pay. Probably get a kick instead of a pat, but, hey, it is just for the fun of it.<g> Thanks Gloria
Dad gum it! Search engine takes you to a page which is umpteen pages long and it isn't alphabetized! Makes you so mad you could spit nails. In your **browser,** look up at the top - see the pulldown buttons? See Edit button? When you have the page you want to search showing in your browser, click on the Edit button, then click on Find in the menu, type your surname in the Find window and click on Find Next. Then Find Again, Find Again til it won't find anymore. Another use for Edit Find even when the pages ARE alphabetized: In the 1860 Macoupin Co census, to find all the **other** surnames living with a family, you need to put what is in column labeled **No. (Number)** of the head of the house in the Find window then keep your eye on the LW (Living With) column. Yep, 25 letters of the alphabet exist for the 1860, so you will have to do that on 25 pages to check all pages. For the 1860, if you put in A24, you are going to find 24 years old people, 240 personal property, and anything with a 24 in it, but the key is to keep your eye on what shows up in the LW column. Cindy Leonard <cindyldq@midwest.net> writes: Miriam McClernon, Oak Terrace, 1700 W. Washington B212, Springfield, IL 62702; called recently in hopes of finding the name of the person who borrowed her book on the Swain family and has not yet returned it. She says it was borrowed by a woman living in Carlinville. Please, if you have Miriam's book, won't you get it back to her? She wants to help yet another Swain family researcher. [The above situation is why I no longer loan out my materials - I don't care how much I like you! Things just seem to get lost & forgotten too easily. I have no problem with making copies, but you can't have my originals! - Cindy]

Hello, This is from the Blackburn College Homepage: ( http://www.blackburn.edu/ ) >Blackburn College is named for Reverend Gideon Blackburn, a >Presbyterian minister and former president of Centre College in >Kentucky. Born in Virginia in 1772, Blackburn was the product of a >loving, devout Scotch-Irish Presbyterian family. He lived with his >paternal grandfather in Washington County until his grandfather's >death. The boy was then raised by his maternal uncle, Gideon Richie, >for whom he had been named. His uncle made sure he had a proper >education and was enrolled in a series of academies until he was >ordained as a Presbyterian minister in 1792. >>After having served a myriad of churches in Kentucky and >>Tennessee, Blackburn, with his wife and three kids, was persuaded >>to move to Macoupin County, Illinois, by his good friend Edward >>Beecher Does anyone know the names of his wife and children? Does anyone have a connection with or any information about the BERRYMAN Family that lived along the Morgan/Macoupin County line during the mid-19th Century? Later on, descendants reportedly lived in Jacksonville. The second wife of William Berryman was my husband's gg-gm Hannah Peters (Nall), about whom I know virtually NOTHING! Thanks so much. Hi, I haven't been up there this week, but heard they have begun renovating. The genealogical society hasn't been notified to pack up our collection as yet, but it would still be best to call first. The library was still open for business for the beginning of the renovations. Phone there is 618-635-3852. Mary I remember that the Library was closing for remodeling. Can anyone tell me when that was going to take place? I am coming to Macoupin next week and hope to be able to come and do some research on Danklef, Doehring, and Ruhlander. Thanks,Becky Roper broper@infowest.com ==== ILMACOUP Mailing List ==== To post a message so everyone on ILMACOUP-L or ILMACOUP-D receives it, send the message to: ILMACOUP-L@rootsweb.com It will then be sent on to everyone in both ILMACOUP-L or ILMACOUP-D. You don't need to send it explicitly to both.

Hi, I received this Email and thought some of you might be interested this lad'ys help. Mary - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Fri, 28 May 99 04:46:17 PDT From: Kimberly S. Ahlgrim To: smckenzi@midwest.net Subject: An interesting discovery... Hello Mary, Greetings from Ohio. I have just discovered a connection to Macoupin County...which I think you might be interested. It may be a few twigs that are missing from the county family tree. My name is Kim Brock-Ahlgrim...and I am a descendant of the Borrough, Anderson & Brock family. They are connected to the Colonel....who was erected as a statue somewhere in the county. If you are interested in completing this part of the tree...just let me know and I will send you many names of our line. I have many wonderful memories of Carlinville and Gillispie. As a child we would visit my aunts...Betty and Georgie. I am hoping to take my two children and husband to visit Macoupin County soon. Have a wonderful weekend! Kim Brock Ahlgrim
There was a Senator or Representative from Illinois named Charles R. Percy. Does anyone have any information on him? Birth date, parents, etc. Thanks, Mary
For those of you interested in the distinctive men and women of Ulster who settled North America, you might take a look at the book "The Scotch-Irish: A Social History," by James G. Leyburn (The University of North Carolina Press). It includes an appendix "The Name 'Scotch-Irish'." Leyburn writes: "The Scotch-Irish have been written about as a 'racial' group, as if their virtues and defects were inherent in their stock; they have been called the first typical American pioneers, the bulwark of the Revolution, the first radical element in American politics; occasionally, their contribution to a particular colony has been justly estimated."
