    1. [ILMACOUP-L] Do you have $10, $20 or $32?
    2. Gloria Frazier
    3. Hi, I recently joined the Macoupin County Genealogical Society as a lifetime member ($100). And, I plan on doing the same with the Macoupin County Historical Society when they can catch me or when I remember. I also sent $24 to Rootsweb Genealogical Cooperative this year. Ok, so you don't have to go that far but we NEED to support our societies in the county and support Rootsweb because Rootsweb provides for at least 15 megs of information on the Macoupin County ILGenWeb page free to anyone who cannot afford to donate. Also, Rootsweb provides free space for many other USGenWeb counties and other databases on the internet. So, for $10, you can join the Macoupin County Genealogical Society, PO Box 95, Staunton, IL 62088-0095 There is a membership form here: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilmacoup/m_gsform.htm And/or for another $10, you can join the Macoupin County Historical Society, Box 432, Carlinville, IL 62626 And/or for $12, you can sponsor RootsWeb and get a free maillist with a set of boards. Rootsweb, P.O. Box 6798, Frazier Park, CA 93222-6798 More Rootsweb info here: http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/how-to-subscribe.html So, please choose one or all and help the societies breath easy and Rootsweb to continue to provide free space so those new young researchers who don't have much money can research for free. Thanks for listening. 1. [ILMACOUP-L] Cemetery Books
    2. Eric Templin/erictem
    3. Hi! Does anyone out there have Macoupin County cemetery books? I would surely appreciate if those with cemetery record books would do a look-up for me. I have just about exhausted all the sensible resources--and some nonsensical ones too!!! I don't know which cemetery they would be buried in and I don't know when the people died. It seems as if there are hundreds of cemeteries in the county!! The burials I am looking for are: Eliza (SMITH) JONES (wife of Jonathan, she died after 1870 Macoupin Co. census) Jonathan JONES (died after 1870 Macoupin Census) Jesse B. EDWARDS (died in Macoupin Co in 1869) Angeline (SMITH) EDWARDS (wife of above Jesse) (She died after 1870 Macoupin Co census) They all lived in Carlinville Twp. at time of 1870 census---except Jesse who was deceased. I have looked at every record on line that I can think of. I have looked at everything my local LDS has on Macoupin County. I've checked the GenWeb search functions and the Ancestry. There has to be one that would tell all that I have missed----but what???? Eliza JONES had a son Thomas HOGAN by her first marriage. He also lived near them on 1870 census. Probably just a coincidence re the same surname but does anyone have access to the HOGAN Cemetery records and could look for these people in it? (It's in North Palmyra Twp.) Thank you everyone! 2. Nancy Pfannenstiel
    3. I am looking for my ancestor's brother, William H. Kerr. The Kerr family came to Macoupin in the 1840's. William is listed in the 1850 and 1860 Macoupin census - Shaw's Point. I can't find him in an 1870 IL index, but we all know that that doesn't necessarily mean he's not in the area. I believe William might be raising his brother's son, Cassius M. "Cash" Kerr, ca 1870. thanks, Nancy _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!? Get your free @yahoo.com address at http://mail.yahoo.com

I also want to thank Chuck Courtwright for bringing it to my attention and to Mrs. Reno's daughter LuAnne Mundy for sending the update via email. The History of Piasa: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilmacoup/history/m_piasa.htm I also received a nice letter from Mrs. Reno. She mentions that her research has included Edmund Harker Forwood (her husband's mother's line), the Reno line, and the Rhoads family who were early settlers of the Medora area, originally called Rhoads Point until the 1870's. 2. Frank & Carolynn Bettis
    3. Recv'd your message on Macoupin List, plus another message from Gloria Frazier, Coordinator, and went to Girard Library this AM for microfilm for 190l and 1897. Had good luck with 1901, but 1897 is checked out my another Girard researcher. Have made copies of this lengthy obit for Margaret Bowersox Carr for you and if you send your home address, will gladly forward same. Will borrow microfilm from other party and obtain Harmen Carr's obit for you and forward too. History of Girard pub. 1955 states, "Bowersox is the second oldest continuous business. The firm was established by Bailey and Carr in 1867, the first exclusive clothing store. This was considered more or less a risk in a country community since "store clothes" were not yet worn by all people. The trade grew rapidly, however, for Girard soon became a wealthy farm community. The store became Carr & Lowe, then Jacob Bowersox became a partner of Carr in January 1882. Jacob Bowersox left the business in 1905. Others owned the store for a few years. Then in 1910 Othel Bowersox and Bert Finney of Auburn purchased the business. After Mr. Finney's death in 1944, Othel Bowersox became the sole owner."
