    1. [ILMACOUP-L] APPEL / APPLE
    2. Adam R. Appel
    3. I am looking for information on Johann Hienrich APPEL also known as John Henry APPEL his last name also known as APPLE. Talk about a man using aliases'. I have found him in the 1860 census living in Macoupin county. He was 51 at the time with a lovely wife and seven children. I have from my records that he was buried in either Brighton or Fosterburgn next to his two former wives. The first one was Lucretia McCANN and, acording to the census, the other was listed as Mary. I also have read tales in some of my old manuscripts that he had a third, Christian LEHR. Anyway, does anyone out there recognize these names? I do not know anything on them, any of them, past this. I would really like to know where they are all buried at, or, even better, what there birth dates and death dates are. Has anyone seen these headstones in a cemetery? Another strange thing. The census has them living in South Palmyra township, and their postal address is Brighton. Things that make you go hhhhmmmm! I would believe the Brighton area thing more than the Palmyra thing, mainly because many of his documents, in later life, mention Fosterburg, and, he was a rather large farmer and I can't see him up and moving accross an entire county. If anyone has an answer for these question, or even a clue for me, please let me know. Thank you! bbs@midkan.net from the Jayhawk state, Adam Appel

    1. [ILMACOUP-L] voting in macoupin county
    2. sandy54
    3. I was just wondering if there is a register for new residence of the county (circa 1880's) to register and vote. If there is a register, what information would there be on it ? and would it be available to get a copy or lookup? My great-grandfather, Edward Scanlon arrived in Virden about 1880 from Scranton, P.A., where he was naturalized on 10/1874. Edward worked as a coal miner and died in Virden 6/1917. Any information would be greatly appricated. Thanks, Gwen

I know there are a lot of Redferns in Macoupin Co and thought that perhaps one of them might be interested in this data just in case there is a connection. Therefore I am sending this along to you with the hope that you can divert it to one of the Redfern families or else post it to the Macoupin Co. List for me? 2. Nancy Pfannenstiel
    3. Since I saw the posts on this surname...have been working with a "cousin" on this one. Samuel Philpott passed away about 1839 in Macoupin. You know how it goes, it lists the husbands of the girls as inheriting the portion of the estate,...Anyway one of the girl's husbands is Robert Nevens/Nivens. they are from the Overton County area of TN. Robert is listed in the 1830 and 1840 macoupin census. Then my cousin can't find him anymore! If she could find Robert in the 1850 census, she'd finally know what the first name of Mrs. Nevins was! the other daughters were: Sina (Mrs Melvin Barnard), Mary Ann (Mrs. Austin White)Jane (Mrs. Peter Kerr) Elizabeth (Mrs. Isaac Kerr) and Mrs. Benjamin whitehead (don't know her first name, either, same story...) and two sons: Martin and Micajah Phillpot. most of the girls families went on to McLean County IL shortly before 1850. thanks!
