Hello, this is my new home.. mrschester@home.com Please come to see me.
Looking for any trace of gristmiller Louis Zinser and wife Louisa, and daughter Mary in Gillespie other than in 1860 federal census (misspelled Zinzer) and possibly in Bunker Hill area at some point. Does anyone know if tax records exist from the 1860s for that part of Macoupin County? Thanks. Jon

Its been a while since I've posted my family - maybe someone can help. 1 - James Farris was found in Franklin Co., TN in the 1807 Tax rolls. He then arrived in the Staunton, IL (this was St. Clair Co., Madison Co., Greene Co. & then Macoupin Co.) around 1817. He arrived with 5 children: Smith, George W. b 1796, Larkin (poss. James), Margaret (married John Riggin/Reggin) & Lucinda (married William Davis). His wife was named Ann. I believe all the children were married by the 1820 census. In the TN Tax rolls there are: George & Smith Faris also. Daughter Margaret married John Riggin in TN. In 1838 Thomas S. West bought out the Farris heirs. James & Ann, his spouse had both died by 1838. The name is spelled Faris, Farriss & Pharis in different IL records for several generations. Does anyone have any information on a James Farris/Farriss/Pharis that may have been born possibly between 1760 - 1770. Then he was in NC or SC in 1796. Just a little more information - 2 - George W. Farris (Farriss in the IL land records also) b. 1796 SC d. 1865 in Macoupin Co., IL. He is buried in the Tine Sawyer Cemetery. His spouse: Nancy Piper b. 1700 GA d. ? (her parents were: James and Catherine (Vineyard) Piper. They were married in 1818 in Madison Co., IL. Nancy remarried in 1866 to a R. W. Williams in 1866 in Macoupin Co., IL. According to George's will they had 4 children: Sarah Jane (married Robert Sawyer 1849 Macoupin Co., IL), Lucinda (married ? Handley), William Vinyeard (married Permelia Harrington) & James S. (he was married 3 times). George built a band mill between Hamel & Alhambra township - one of the first there. According to his tombstone, George was a veteran, but I can't find him in anywhere in the military. He is listed as an Honor Roll Veteran in Macoupin Co., but when I contacted the state they found no information on him. 3 - William Vinyeard b. 1823 d. 1879 Macoupin Co., IL. He married Permelia Harrington in 1879. Permelia was b. 1822 Staunton, IL. (I believe her father was John Harrington and his father Whitmil Harrington) William and Permelia had 7 Children: Sarah Jane b. 1845, Emma C. b. 1947, Margaret Isabell b. 1849, George W. b. 1853, Permelia Ann b. 1858, Charles b. 1863 and William Henry b. 1861. This family lived in "West Prairie"??? which would have been east of Bunker Hill, IL. Has anyone heard of West Prairie?? There is a "story" that William came home to find his wife and children gone. He tracked them down with his gun - and then something about loosing all his land instead of going to jail. As of yet I haven't been able to find anything about this "story". Other surnames associated with these Faris' in IL are: Crites/Cretuz, Funderburk/Funderburg, Piper, Sawyer & Vineyard. Sorry this is so long but maybe another name will help someone else to connect. Thank you for taking the time to read this. -- Debi Fort Myers, FL df620@gate.net - - - - - - - - What part of "Thou shall not" don't you understand?
Another query to Mary Mckenzie at the MCGS. gf ************ Hello Mary, Can you tell me if there is anyone in your organization who can help me with proof of death/burial of my 3rd Great-grandparents, Thomas Hyder and Rachel Mary (DeVault) Hunt? They are (according to two DeVault family genealogies) buried in the Reader Cemetery in/near Chesterfield, IL. Thomas Hyder Hunt was born 7 April 1816, died 7 June 1863. Rachel Mary Hunt was born abt. 1821, died 15 October 1900 in Kansas City, MO, but her body was returned to Chesterfield for burial. There is a son, James Hunt, born in 1838, died 26 November 1860, who was also buried there I am quite anxious to locate this information as it is all I need now to complete my application to DAR. I am willing to pay a reasonable fee for someone to help me. Any help you can give me in locating a researcher will be very much appreciated. Thank you, Kay Appleby Sandra "(Kay)" Appleby <kappleby@jas.net>
Mary McKenzie got this query. Can anyone help the person out on Dillon Gallery?? Thanks. gf ***************** Date: Sat, 16 Oct 99 15:48:15 PDT From: X1y2z@aol.com To: smckenzi@midwest.net Subject: A question about Virden Ill in 1866 Dear Mary, I noticed a post about pictures a lady had that were done by a George W Dillon of Virden Il. I have a picture of John Myers , a physician, who had his picture taken supposedly in 1866 just befre he went to Oregon. It says on the back of that picture from Dillon's Gallery, East Side Public Square, Virden, Ills I did not expect John Myers to be in Virden when he got married in Whiteside Ill and had two older kids in Ill and two youger ones in Iowa. My grandmother had written down that John Myers's son Frank was born in Verdum, Iowa, a place I have been searching for. I never connected the Virden Ill to Verdum Iowa until yesterday. So I now want to find out was there ever another Virden Ills that disaapeared ? Or was there a George Dillon that took pictures in 1866 in this Virden Ill? I didn't notice my John H Myers, physician or any George Dillin the 1860 census online. By 1870 my John H Myers is in Portland Ore listed as F J Meyers with the correct wife and family. It would really help to find out if there ever was a Dillon Gallery in Virden Ill. Thankyou for you trouble, Joy Benemann
Gloria and Mary Ann, I just want to thank both of you for allowing me the opportunity to partake in scanning the pages for the site. If you need anymore help, please let me know. julie
Are we psychic or what?? Circuit Clerk Macoupin County Courthouse Carlinville, IL 62626 $1 a sheet and there may be a hundred sheets in the box, so tell them how much you want to pay up front. Tell them to copy sheets up to $25 or $50 or whatever unless you want to go for the whole shabang. Oh, there might be a $10 research fee up front, too. Better ask. Never know. It is a big job at the courthouse with the boxes, ledgers, etc, so allow time. $1 a sheet cuz of the wear and tear on the copy machine with ledgers. Manager of one of the Walmart Photo Labs -as a matter of fact I worked at setting the display today-This is a great Free project, the customer takes in a photo and you will get a free 5x7 and can give permission and the other copy will be displayed. I might add at this time the machine used to make these photos are the same one that great black and white photos (that you do not have a negative of ) can be copied on reg. photo quality paper. Many folks make those copies, sharing memories, and are very in-expensive. Just a added comment. Mary

Hello, Is there anyone on the list who can help me with this? I have looked at the FHC film for Macoupin Co. Probate Index and found a probate record I would dearly like to have. Only one problem----FHC has filmed the records beginning with the year 1849 and the one I am interested in is 1847. Is there anyone that can get a copy of it for me? I have the name and Box #. Or perhaps someone can tell me about what it would cost to order a copy from the County courthouse? I have no idea how many pages etc. are in the box. Thanks much for any help or ideas. Rose in CA
Many, many thanks to Eileen Gochanour for giving permission to Mary Ann Kaylor to put the "Union Chapel Methodist Church Records, 1868-1945" online. Really appreciate Mary Ann Kaylor for taking the trouble and writing for permission, and above all, thanks to Julie Baxter for scanning the pages of the book. I didn't find anything on my Duncan line, but do appreciate those who do so much to help the rest of us. God bless, Marilyn
FYI gf ************* From: "William G House" <wghouse@cts.com> To: "Gloria Frazier" <glofra@townsqr.com> Subject: Fw: National Veteran's Wall Date: Fri, 29 Oct 1999 18:20:11 -0700 ----- Original Message ----- From: <BMarble@aol.com> To: <MARKHAM-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, October 29, 1999 4:43 PM Subject: National Veteran's Wall I just received word today that all Wal-Mart's nation wide are sponsoring a National Veteran's Wall to be built in Washington D C. To promote this wall they are offering a free 5x7 copy of your veteran's pictures. They will make 2 copies of the photograph, give you one and keep the other to display in an in-store collage. After that, Wal-Mart will send their photographs to Washington D C where it will be placed on a star on the National Veteran's wall. The picture must be a veteran IN UNIFORM and you will need to supply the following information: Name of Veteran Rank Branch of Service Dates of Service Unit This information will be included on the star that contains the photograph. I think this is a great idea and hope that all of you veteran's out there will take advantage of this offer and take your place of honor on this wall. Also, they are including pictures of Civil War veterans so start digging in those closets and boxes for your family veteran's. Please don't send me questions but check with your local Wal-Mart if you need more details. I did call my local Wal-Mart to verify this promotion amd received confirmation. I asked if this was being done nation wide and they said as long as they have a photo-lab at the store this offer is vaild. The deadline is Nov 11 so don't wait too long. Brenda Marble
Union Chapel Methodist Church Records, 1868-1945 now online thanks to Eileen Gochanour for giving permission to Mary Ann Kaylor to put it online. The print is "1983 typewriter" <g> so blurry but let each page load and pretty darn good for the type of print. http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilmacoup/bookunio/main.htm Thanks to Mary Ann Kaylor for writing for permission. Thanks to Julie Baxter for scanning the pages of the book. If anyone would want to type up the index to this book which is online, holler, first to me. The surnames in this book are not searchable worldwide because the pages are pictures/images/jpegs. Needs to be html files/typing. No, not uploading pdf files. If want to type the index, let me know first so we won't double efforts. Thanks. Have fun! This is a great resource to have online. Everly and Charity books coming soon. Gloria
This is of limited interest, I know, but... I have a high quality scanned studio photo of WILLIAM GEORGE GUSKY, emigrated Lithuanian resident of White City, IL from before 1910 until 1922. According to the 1910 census, he had two Lithuanian boarders: CHARLES SAMMIS and PETER SARAMBO/ZARUMBO (census said SARAMBO, photo says ZARUMBO). I will be pleased to e-mail this to anyone with an interest in those names. I also have a smaller photo of BILL SAMMIS, son of CHARLES SAMMIS, which I would be pleased to share. -- Bill Gusky DeLand, Florida

Hi Rooters, I am looking for any information available on Abner SISSON, born before 1775 in Virginia, died about 1822 in Jefferson County, Kentucky, near Louisville. Abner SISSON had at least two children, John SISSON and Jackson SISSON. JACKSON SISSON was born in Culpepper County, Virginia, Oct. I7th, 1817, went with his family to Jefferson County, Kentucky, about 1817, moved to Macoupin County, Illinois, about 1837. He was married February 1st, 1849, to Mrs. Nannie C. DORSEY, widow of Basil H. DORSEY. Her maiden name was Nannie C. PAYNE; she was born in Fayette county, Kentucky, two miles from Ashland, July 28th, 1824, and was the daughter of Sandford K. PAYNE. She first came to Illinois in 1844, when nineteen years old. Jackson and Nannie SISSON had six known children. Their names are as follows: Edward A. SISSON; Fannie C. SISSON, who married William ROBERTS; T. Abner SISSON, Monroe G. SISSON, John W. SISSON and Silas B. SISSON. This family surname is sometimes referred to as SISSOM. John D. Hi all, I just discovered that my g-g-grandfather was likely Joel Neff who resided in Madison County. I was wondering if anyone out there might have access to probate records or reference materials dealing with early settlers that might include information on Joel. The basic information I have now is: 1830 Census Madison Co. (Macoupin was formed from Madison and Greene counties on Jan 17, 1829) Page 186 # 6 Joel Neff 20-30 one daughter 0-5 and wife 20-30.
