    1. [ILMACOUP-L] LDS FamilySearch.org To Add 240 Million New Names
    2. Gloria Frazier
    3. >From Dick Eastman's current online genealogy newsletter: - LDS FamilySearch.org To Add 240 Million New Names There hasn't been any official announcement, but two Salt Lake City newspapers report that the Mormon's popular online Web site will add a lot more records to their online database on Monday. The addition of 240 million new names will mean that a total of 640 million records will now be available at http://www.familysearch.org. In addition, FamilySearch plans early next year to index the new Pedigree Resource File (PRF), a database of family history records being uploaded to the site by users. Only the index is expected to be online. The files containing PRF data will be available on a set of CD-ROM disks. The PRF, already listing more than 5 million names, is projected to grow at the rate of 1.2 million names per month. Full details are available at: http://www.sltrib.com/1999/nov/11161999/utah/47672.htm and at http://www.desnews.com/cgi-bin/libstory_reg?dn99&9911150026 Cheryl Rothwell

    3. It is my understanding that at some point in the 1870s, IL courthouses began asking for more information on marriage records/applications. I have one from 1884, Macoupin Co., that asks ages, birthplaces, parents' names including mother's maiden name, etc. However, I cannot remember if there is a separate marriage application book or series of books. Perhaps other list members know the answer to this, or a call to the courthouse could provide an answer. Linda Kmiecik tonky@ctnet.net

    1. [ILMACOUP-L] Marriage License vs Marriage record
    2. Mark Strohbeck
    3. Fellow Macoupin Co researchers, Here is an ignorant question that must surely be answered somewhere...but I can't find it: Along with the record of marriage found in the county marriage record books, which consists of one line per marriage, is there also a marriage license or application for license which could be found somewhere? If so, does this contain more information? My gg grandparents, Robert Watt and Mary Hines were married in Macoupin Co in 1862. The IL marriage index gives a reference of vol 5, pg 3 of the marriage record book which I have seen. But it also gives a license number of 4063. Should that give me hope that poor Mary's parents might be written somewhere, or is that just a further reference to the marriage record book? Thanks. Mark Strohbeck strohbmw@wt.net

A large library near you or a near LDS Family History Center could order the census for you for about $3.75 to view at the center. Search the LDS library catalog for the census film number here: http://www.familysearch.org/Search/searchcatalog.asp While your are there might search for your surname here: http://www.familysearch.org/ I mean like a census where he would still be living with his parents - before the next possible census he would have had his name changed. Do you think he might have been in Macoupin when and if he changed his name? If so, then when you get the timeframe for a possibility of changing his name, you could write to the courthouse. Not sure which office - send to one office and ask - if they aren't the office ask to forward down the hall to the other: Circuit Clerk Macoupin County Courthouse Carlinville, IL 62626 Or County Clerk, same address. The courthouse workers aren't going to check even for a charge (maybe $5) if you don't have around a 2 or so year timeframe. For current people with the surname rumbold and rumbolz, check here. IL, or neighboring Macoupin Co. to east). Mary was about 17 and daughter of Squire Coonrod. John and Mary Scott lived in Pleasant View Twp. Cherokee Co., KS, moved later Columbus the county seat, and raised a number of children, including my grandmother Etta M. Scott. 1. [ILMACOUP-L] Ezekial Springer - More

    3. FYI gf ********* From: pingle@viagrafix.net (Pamela Ingle) To: "Gloria Frazier" <glofra@townsqr.com> Subject: Re: Springer Surname - Was Re: Cemetary LOOKUP? Date: Sun, 14 Nov 1999 20:53:08 -0600 Hi Gloria, Thanks so much.......I really appreciate your help! Let me explain a bit more......maybe it might help? Sorry to go on and on, but as you can see, this Springer line is driving me bananas. Ezekiel Springer was born in Union SC (old district 96) abt 1754. His great grandfather was Charles(Carl) Springer b. 1658 in Sweden and settled along the Delaware River at New Castle....he is buried at the Old Swedes Church, in DE, reputed to be the first church built in America, which he helped to build and had served as the first warden. The family was associated with the Early Quakers of PA, that migrated to NC, and later to SC in the mid 1700s. He was with a group of Baptists that followed Phillip Mulkey after to Barren Co. KY. There they built the old Mill Creek Church (known now as the Old Mulkey), which stands today as the first church built in KY. Ezekiel and his wife Rebecca Collins had a son named John Springer, who married Elizabeth "Betsey" Bellew in Union SC abt. 1803. Betsey was the dau. of Zachariah Belew, and the grand daughter of Renny Belue Sr., who both served in the Rev. War under Col. Brandon. Shortly after they were married, the family followed Ezekiel to KY. John died in Barren Co. KY ca. 1815, and his widow, Betsey, remarried by 1816 to a widower named Joseph Gist. She and her children remained in KY/TN area. Ezekiel Springer (Sr.) appears on the 1830 census, but is not there in 1840 or 1850. His son, Ezekiel Springer (Jr. ) and his second wife Oney Parrot Bow (he was first mar. to Nancy Harland), do appear on both the 1840 and 1850 census. This makes me "suspect" that Rebecca and Ezekiel Springer are dec. by 1840. The last land purchase made by Ezekiel was in 8/1/1831, which further narrows the time of death to bet 1831 and 1840. By this time he would have been in his seventies. I'm not sure where or when he was bur., but I'll bet, it was in a church cem. and he was busy building a church bef. he died. Probably Baptist! The two parcels of land purchased in North Otter Township 12N 7W section 34 was purchased by "Springer, Ezekiel SR", but all of the other purchases did not include the SR. This would lead me to "suspect" that all of the other purchases were made by the son, rather than the father, and the were all in North Palmyra Township 12N 08W, section 3. So, I would narrow down the location of the bur. site to North Otter. Another Springer line can be found on the 1840 and 1850 census, that may connect much further back. This line tracked through VA, and do not appear to be closely connected. Also found are numerous Harlans. Many of Ezekiels dau. married into the Harlan(d) family from KY, as did his son Ezekiel. I had read the article about the "Coin Searchers" on the Macoupin IL USgenweb site, and how they stumbled upon an old cem. site with (Vandil?) headstones dating back to the 1830s. I'm hoping that someone will happen upon the bur. site of my 6 great grandparents. This appeared to be in the same area that they lived. To give you the scope of just how elusive this line has been, I'll tell you about another Springer. Stay with me now, this fellow got around, but it does tie in to IL! In 1851, Josephus Springer (the grandson of Ezekiel's son John that preceeded him in death), married Sarah Ann Smith in Macon Co. TN. Their first dau. Nancy was born abt. 1852, and shortly after, they headed off for cheap land in TX, where they had one son (and pos. other kids that died young). By 1855, they were in Fulton Co. AR and appear there on the census in 1860. In 1870 Sarah appears, but no Josephus, one child, Elizabeth, b. 1859, is no longer with her (presumed dec.) but she has another child named Matilda, born in ..........yep, you guessed it.......Illinois!! Joseph died ca. 1864, whereabouts unk. The only clue that we have is that his brother, Turner G. Springer, was found in the 110th IL. Also, some of Sarah's family moved IL from TN. I know only that Joe was said to be a "Union Man", and have been unable to find a record of service in TN, AR and KY and nothing yet for IL. At least now, I know that Ezekiel was in IL and the time of his death was bet 1831-1839. Well anyway, you can see that I am absolutely obsessed with discovering more about my elusive Springers! They sure have lead me for a chase. <grin> Best wishes, and again, thanks so much! Pam Ingle

Cumons I know I saw at least two Dugger/Duggar stones this past Saturday. This listing: CONWAY Infant son of J.B. & N.A. Conaway Feb. 14, 1864 [No date listed] was on the list without parents' initials or birth date, but this is a stone we did examine closely, using shaving cream to easily read the letters and numbers. We also looked closely at this stone: Stephen D. son of H & E RULE 11 yrs. 5 da. Jan. 29, 1864 The list did not give his middle initial or "son of H & E RULE." Note the misspelling of Rule on the stone. I also recall looking at Minerva Redfern's stone. It has more information on it. I believe it said she died at the age of 19. Her stone is the farthest from the front gate, right next to the back fence line. She has a footstone with her initials. Looking back, I wish we had taken the time to examine all the stones more closely, but I don't think we had the energy left! Also, we were eager to visit the nearby MILLER cemetery because some members of the family had never been there. Dark comes early now, so we wanted to leave the RUYLE Cemetery by 3:00 or 3:30 to have time to visit the MILLER Cemetery. Here is the information my sister and I gleaned in June: Nancy J. wife of Austin Ruyle died Feb. 8, 1887 age 66 yrs. 9 mo. 9 days Austin Ruyle died July 6, 1879 age 69 yrs. 4 mo. 15 days A. Elizabeth [wife of Moses] died 1851 In June we were unable to get more information from Elizabeth's stone because it was tilted and under a large bramble rose bush. I believe it has more information on it than what we recorded at that time. On Saturday, we set this stone upright. I hope this information is useful and helpful to someone. I will certainly post an update after our next visit. ~~Rhonda Ashby Coulter

    1. [ILMACOUP-L] Springer Surname - Was Re: Cemetary LOOKUP?

    3. Good Maocupin twp/sect/range map here: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilmacoup/images/macoupin.jpg I have the cem books for townships: Scottville North Palmyra North Otter Virden Girard Barr South Palmyra South Otter Nilwood Western Mound Bird Carlinville Shaws Point Chesterfield Polk Brushy Mound Honey Point Hilyard Shipman ----------------- No help on Ezekial. I checked the probate records index thru 1867 and no Springer at all. In Carlinville Twp, Section 34, Mayfield Memorial Cem May Springer Myers 1869-1954 (no mon/day) Section F of the Cem Rest of twps for Macoupin I think I have most but may be missing a few as the gen soc aren't finished, I think. These twps: Gillespie Cahokia Brighton Bunker Hill Dorchester Mt. Olive Staunton ------------------ Gillespie City Cem which is in Cahokia twp, I found: Springer Carl 1879-1945 w/Marie Pauline d/o John Kurr 2 Feb 1883-4 Mar 1965 Herman 9 Feb 1883-11 Jul 1949 w/Olga (Katzmarek) 14 May 1885-20 Feb 1941 Lena d/o H & O Aug 1885-12 Jul 1964 (these may be no kin, if the others moved to IA I haven't cked the other cem books, yet, for all the southern twps I have. Yep, in the 1840's, lucky to find a marked grave. Having/owning land tho', they ought to had enough money for a tombstone if they still lived there. If they owned land in Macoupin, the deeds ought to be at Macoupin County courthouse. Might need to hire a pro researcher for that. If the land was sold before the others trekked to IA, the old ones might have gone, too. Section 3 of North Palmyra is bordering Morgan Co so you might need to look in Morgan. Sorry to not be much help. I am copying the Macoupin list to see if they might have something for you.
