    1. [ILMACOUP-L] Message from Mary McKenzie
    2. Following is message from Mary McKenzie. Kathleen Mirabella ****************************************************************************** *********** Hi Kathleen, Maybe you can forward this Email to my friends on the Macoupin List. I'm at my mother-in-laws using her computer. Probably not a good idea to Email me here as I'm not here very often and I'm having fits trying to use Windows 98, which I'm struggling with. Anyway, I don't have my Email addresses any more and just had to look up the Macoupin Site to get Kathleen and Gloria's addresses. I really miss you all. Don't know when I'll be back on line. I never knew what an addict I was to my computer. The contractor and Insurance company haven't come to terms yet, so don't know when anything will be done with our house being rebuilt. Guess its too cold anyway to do any building right now. I'll try to send a message to you all every now and then, whenever I can get my hands on a computer. If you want to contact me, its best to write me at my regular address in Livingston. Thank you to everyone for all your support. You're a great lot of people. God Bless. Mary McKenzie

    3. Alyson, Perhaps the rest of our Scheller research group has already contacted you -- there are several of us working together -- to tell you Theodore Frey was the son of Elise Frieda Scheller and John Frey. Elise was my great-grandmother's sister. Are you a member of this family? Among us we have photos of Theodore as a child. I would love to talk with you and see the photo if possible, or have you pass my name and e-mail address along to whomever claims your photo. 1. Re: [ILMACOUP-L] Have you cked for worms lately
    2. Mary Ann Kaylor
    3. I got one today...called "PrettyPark.exe", Norton caught it right away, never opened it. Its an old one, been out since June 1999. Treated this one different though, Norton put it in "quarantine", they've not done that with any of mine before. I didn't like it there even, so I just deleted the whole thing. Believe it was a "worm". Yes, very important to run the Virus Updates, if you haven't. Mine is scheduled to update once a week, but since the middle of December I update just about everyday. 2. Gloria Frazier
    3. If you haven't checked for worms lately, how about using your virus checker and see if you have let one slip in on your computer. We won't get worms from the maillists but any private emails even from state agencies, etc, can have a worm attached. Not too long ago I recd a worm called baby.exe. I didn't open it and deleted it as it looked suspicious. And, a few minutes ago, another person said someone had sent her the happy99.exe virus very recently. I am getting very paranoid about attachments sent to me. If they look funny coming from a friend, I don't open it; I delete the attachment and ask the friend after the fact as to what the attachment was. Worms are nuisances and can infect every email you send out and you won't know you are sending on every email you send out to people. Some more of the viruses are:- 1) buddylst.exe 2) calcu18r.exe 3) deathpr.exe 4) einstein.exe 5) happ.exe 6) happy99.exe 7) japanese.exe 8) keypress.exe 9) kitty.exe 10) teletubb.exe Whatever virus checker you have, go to their site and see if you have the latest update then use it for your computer. Yep, won't hurt to get a little paranoid about attachments you receive. One way to be sure your system isn't infected is to run your virus checker on your system before you open the attachment(s). Or just plain run your virus checker now/soon. Thanks. Gloria Frazier

    1. [ILMACOUP-L] Robert HAYS/Maria BUSH
    2. Gloria Frazier
    3. Who was this Robert Hays? My maternal grandmother was a Hays. Her ggrandfather William Hays, Sr came to Macoupin Co from Martin Co IN about 1830. While we don't have known kin Robert Hays born early 1800, son of Wm Hays Sr, there might have been. The below Robert Hays probably died by 1839. Having married in 1834, he may have had children altho Wm Srs will did not mention children of a Robert but mentioned grandchildren of other children so probably doubt this Robert had children if he might have been a son of Wm Sr. Dead by 1839, this Robert Hays may have been buried in the area in an unmarked grave or possibly in the lost Richards Cem in North Otter Twp. Enoch Richards died in Jan 1839. Wondering if this Robert Hays might have died in the same disease or accident as Enoch Richards. Enoch and Edmund below were brothers to my gggrandmother Agnes Richards Adcock. I know Enoch and sister Agnes are supposed to be buried in the lost Richards Cem which today is on Rees land in North Otter Twp. 3. Pretty good U of I search for old newspapers on microfilm which are available at the IL Historical Library or thru your local library loan wherever you are. For instance, I put in just Macoupin for county and chose Illinois as state and received the list of old newspapers available. I also tried Rock Island then tried Madison. Better bookmark it. http://www.library.uiuc.edu/techserv/inp/database/search_form.asp Learn about the IL Historical Library, old newspapers there, and Interlibrary Loan on this site: http://www.state.il.us/hpa/lib/default.htm Gloria Frazier

    3. Could use at least 6 more volunteers. Anyway, 6 pkgs still not addressed. So far, I want to thank these people for volunteering: Linda R. F. Arnold Loretta Beeuwsaert Patti Breaux Sue McMurry Ronnie Peralta Irvina Russell Joretta Weaver One thing determined - if you don't have programs, Excel, Works, DBase, Quattro, Mac .csv, or WordPerfect I can't convert so you need to follow the text typing instructions at the bottom of the email message to ILMACOUP dated Jan 17 with the subject Probate Index A -Typists Needed! Or just save your typing as text and send as an attachment should do it, too. John Sissom will convert WordPerfect for me. I am able to convert but have some dumb something set where all conversion goes in column A. Won't go there. Thank you to all the volunteers. Let's see. Macoupin has Civil War rosters, first birth index, honor roll of burials, 1830,40,50,60 censuses, state archives has the earliest marriages searchable database, we are doing the earliest probate index....... We could use an early death index and I see IRAD has a death index. That would round out a nice bunch of records to start with researching Macoupin. Would like to ask IRAD if we could get some copies of that death index but that one index they have 1877-1910 may be too big of a chunk of work - not going for burnout anymore. Gloria

    1. [ILMACOUP-L] FRIEND-WATSON-CLARK
    2. I am searching for a William WATSON b. ca 1843, that was living around the Macoupin County area around 1850. I don't have much information on William other than he married my GGG-grandmother, Sarah Ann FRIEND in 1863 in Morgan County. It was stated that Sarah Ann "FRIEND" was an orphan, and had been living with a sister who had no objection to this marriage. William stated that he was not yet 21 and had not been living with his father for 8 years. He also stated that his father had, at the time of application, moved to Washington County, IL. This is all the information that I have on William WATSON. Sarah Ann "FRIEND" WATSON remarried in 1866 to Andrew Miller CLARK, son of Samuel and Nancy "MILLER" CLARK. Sarah had a child that was 2 months of age at the time she married Andrew Miller CLARK. The child was raised as a CLARK, but family lore tells us that he was possibly a WATSON. I am searching for information on William WATSON, hoping to prove or disprove this theory. If anyone has any information on these lines, I would love to communcate with you. Happy Hunting...... Jo < Joretta10@aol.com > Macoupin County names that are associated with this line of research are: CLARK, HOOVER, MILLER, BACON, BRIDGES, JACKSON.

    1. [ILMACOUP-L] Probate Index A -Typists Needed!
    2. Gloria Frazier
    3. Please read thru the whole message before you decide to type. We need typists for Macoupin Probate Index A (earliest thru 1881) It will be done if and when we get enough typists. Sue McMurry has agreed to help me in proofreading and using the 2x4 when I am not alert. Thanks, Sue. Sample - I typed letter "A" (probably about a third or fourth the size of typing for, say, letter "W"): http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilmacoup/probate-a/a.htm To keep my sanity, you must agree to this contract: 1. You can request from me any of the following pkgs of letter(s). B C D EF G HI JK L M NOPQ R S TUV WYZ (there is no X) 2. These pkgs are somewhat large (in my terms of typing definition) and I am paying postage for all going out from here so you have to promise that if you can't type them for some reason, you will send post paid all unfinished typing back to me. Please don't ask for a letter of the alphabet package because you want to see the names and don't have intentions of typing. 3. If you type the data, then it should be returned in a timely fashion, say 2 weeks to a month, reason given for not being able to finish, or copies returned to me in same timely fashion. 4. You MUST promise to do one proof reading of your own typing. We will also do one proofreading and that is exactly 2 total proofreadings. Signed [Your Name] **************************** Typing initial/basic instructions (I know there will be individual questions later): *Even dummies can help, see dummie instructions below. *************** Database/spreadsheet Typists: If you have up to date spreadsheet/database programs then you better save it in one version BELOW your up to date one. I have Excel 97 and I can only convert your Excel, Works, DBase, Quattro, Mac .csv, etc, from whatever my Excel 97 will convert. If you are ahead of me in revisions, I won't be able to convert. Use the sample site: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilmacoup/probate-a/a.htm 7 columns (header row like the sample is ok to include) DO NOT SORT!! (haven't decided if I will sort at all cuz are in alpha order generally - easier for courthouse worker to reference if isn't sorted - anyway decision will be later) Arial 8 font regular would be ok. Other than that, leave stripped from fancy formatting/fonts/authors/titles, etc. Easier for me to put my own basics in when saving as html. Could remove blank sheets and put just the letter in the tab at the bottom left of sheet. Return to me as an attachment or can snail mail on a diskette. Subject line should have your typing alpha letter in it. Check your system for viruses so you won't send me a worm or worse in the attachments. ************ Dummies Instructions: Typing is done ON an email message. Subject line should have have your typing alpha letter in it. Have to use SEMI COLONS this time for columns because of the normal use of too many commas in the data You will use 6 semi colons for the 7 columns and a hard return at the end of each line of data. DO NOT SORT!! (haven't decided if I will sort at all cuz are in alpha order generally - easier for courthouse worker to reference if isn't sorted - anyway decision will be later) Study the sample site with the typing samples below and see if you can figure out where the semi colons are going and the hard return for each line. A space or no space around the semi colons won't matter. Prefer no spaces but don't think it will bother a thing if you forget and leave a space. An extra or leftout semi colon WILL make a difference. I will send it back to you to check if you are missing one or two semi colons. Must be 6 semi colons even if there are empty columns. I don't have time to go thru and count your semi colons in each line. http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilmacoup/probate-a/a.htm Name;Name of Administrator,Executor or Guardian;Title;Box;Comments;Index Page No.;Year which index page starts if shown Page of "A"s missing;;;;; Page 1 missing; 1837 ANDREW, Richard;Joseph Andrews, Sr;Administrator;; 4;2;1851 Same heirs of; Same; Guardian;;; 2;1851 ABRAMS, Lewis;Wm J. 2. Mary Ann Kaylor
    3. Hi All, I have added a Genealogy Report on my STEWART lineage on "My Family Genealogy" Web page. There are over 200 Surnames in this report, the most common are STEWART; ENGLAND; HOLLOWAY; JONES; & RICHARDS. I have a Surname Index page as well as a page for Sources/Endnotes. http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~makaylor/index.html Click on Stewart Genealogy Report. This lineage is primarily in Morgan and Macoupin Cos, but there are some Sangamon/Greene Cos. locations, too. So all of you STEWART researchers in Macoupin who are wanting Sources, etc. for Rev. John Stewart in N. Otter Township, this is the place to go :-) And some of the HAYS info that Gloria and all Hays researchers sent me are included. But not all, as not my direct lineage, wanted to keep my database smaller. This was compiled from many researchers over the years and I have tried to list those contributors. Mary Ann

    1. [ILMACOUP-L] Kathleen Mirabella
    2. Gloria Frazier
    3. Who is she? She is my "right arm" with the Macoupin County ILGenWeb site. She has been since 1996. She is more than just a helper and she deserves the recognition. I have put her on the Macoupin County ILGenWeb page as a Co-Coordinator/Assistant Coordinator. I hesitate at times because she works fulltime; she works overtime; she and Roy have a teenager; a few health problems in the family so I can't always have her. So, sometimes she may need to back off the page for a spell. In the last few days even with her overtime and a health problem in the family, she is busting her tail to work on the Macoupin page. Between her and me/she and I (whatever<g>), we are really updating the Macoupin County ILGenWeb page. New or revised homepage links, query email address changes, 20 or so new obits indexed........holiday decor coming down.......many little corrections, additions. I really appreciate her efforts because with my overseeing 21 counties in the western ILGenWeb region (overseeing means if someone drops out as cc/whatever I get to babysit until someone adopts the county) I have had two counties recently and think they are soon to be adopted, hopefully, and there are 29 megs of info and pics on the Macoupin page to keep updated. And, I hope this week we can get the earliest Macoupin probate index started (when Sue sez so<g>). Sometimes hard/double trouble when two people work on a web page together because sometimes one will load over the other person's work. It is tricky but we are trying to not let that happen. Thanks, Kathleen, for all your assistance. Please let us know if we have missed doing something for you on the Macoupin site. We might be a bit slow but we will get it done if Gloria can remember......
