    1. [ILMACOUP] John Leonard
    2. Mary Wallendorff
    3. I'm trying to find a John Leonard b. abt 1822. I think he was born in KY because his sister Mary Elizabeth was born there in 1834. With the age difference he could have been born somewhere else. I know Mary was in Macoupin Co. in the early 1850's. John was in Alton, IL in 1900 living with relatives at the age of 78. He might have died between 1901or 1902 in Alton but I could be wrong. Any help would be great. Thanks Mary

    1. [ILMACOUP] Changes to Rootsweb Mail List
    2. Rootsweb has changed to a new mail list program called Mailman. The old one was called Smartlist. Not all mail lists have been converted - Macoupin County mail list has been. It has at least three things we do not like. 1. If you try to send a msg to a rootsweb mail list and, at the same time, you try to copy other individuals or other mail lists, the msg will bounce. You can only send to one rootsweb mail list at a time. If you send to more than one mail list - You and your message end up in mail list jail!! Kathleen will be able to get you out - no bail required. 2. You have garbage at the top of the message. 3. We can't put more than one tagline at the end of the message at a time. If we want to change the tagline we have to go in and manually change it. Before, we could add up to about 10 taglines and they would rotate on their own. Good luck and Happy Hunting with your research. Gloria Frazier and Kathleen Mirabella

    1. [ILMACOUP] newspaper archive search engine at google - free
    2. I received this on another list - it worked for me. Kathie ********** This is making the rounds. Google has a free search engine to historical newspapers, some of which include NewspaperArchive.com (which I believe is part and parcel of Ancestry.com??). The links take you to at least part of the article plus the newspaper title and date which you can then use to get the articles from local or state historical facilities without signing up for the subscription--good if you are on budget. Some of the articles have undergone OCR and consequently have some jumbled words. http://news.google.com/archivesearch I tried it for a couple people of interest - works for me!

    1. [ILMACOUP] Best Place To Get obit from 1999?
    2. sherrymorellshelts
    3. Hello List Members, We need very much to get a copy of the obit for "Bessie E CLARK" who died in Gillespie on 29 March 1999. Would it be best for us to contact the Gillespie Public Library or the Macoupin Co Genie Society to get this obit? We are desperately trying to find out who Bessie's parents were, as her "unknown mother" was married to Oyeton PETERSON when he died in Torch, Mo in 1925, at a young age. The obit of one of Oyeton's daughters names Bessie E CLARK as one of her 3 step-sisters. We hope Bessie's obit will tell us who her parents were, and who her husband/children are, so we can try to contact someone in her down-line, in the hope of gathering as much information as possible concerning Bessie's parents, etc. Thank You for any help or suggestions, Sherry Morell Shelts

    1. Death Certs prior to 1919 in Illinois
    2. MJ Bradley
    3. The following is what the Illinois Dept of Vital Stats. Death records before 1916 were maintained exclusively by the county clerks. Most county clerks did not record deaths until 1877. Copies of death records filed before 1916 may be obtained from the Illinois Regional Archives Depository (IRAD) system if IRAD holds death records for that particular county or from the county clerk in the county where the death occurred. Search the IRAD Local Governmental Records Database for death records held by the IRAD system. Click here for the addresses of the county clerks of all 102 counties in Illinois. This is the website to find the link to IRAD http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/archives/idphdeathindex.html#before1916 Good Luck MJ “Shoot for the moon.
