Just curious. I've noticed a whole LOT of quoting going on, to the extent that I got several copies of the _entire_ digest. Isn't it considered best to "snip" the excess from the autoquote before sending your reply? It seems confusing to me to read so many identical copies of messages, all contained in one digest. ==Marjorie Wilser, looking for DOLBOW, DALBO, and RITCHIE. You can also just go to ancestry.com and on that page to the right, 2nd box - click on the box and it will take you to the Ship Passenger lists. That 2nd box rotates through 3 different things - but click on it at any time and it will take you where you want to be. My FOUR other urls don't take you to the starting page, but this should...or wonder if this just goes to my account??? It take determination like this to do family history, eh? Just a note to all the Sawyer relations on this list. When the new year starts, I will be asking for updated family information to update my mom's Sawyer family book. Marvyl Powelson and others will be helping gather the corrected/updated information. If you want to send your family information, please send it to me at [email protected] I just came in on the end of this discussion and though I haven't taken time to look for an answer yet, I wanted those of you who contributed information to my mom's (Ellen Salter DalPozzo) update of George & Santina's work to know we are working on it again. Knowing there are errors and that there is more information now out there somewhere, it is time to do this. I agree the indexing has been wonderful and it sure beats having to search those old microfilms, page by page, as most of us have done over the years. Sometimes, you just have to be creative in the search. Linda Arnold

It doesn't surprise that Macoupin county has been incorrectly spelled. I have also seen McCoupin, M'coupin along the way and not just on Ancestry.com. Linda Arnold Ancestry and Heritage Quest have both outsourced the census records to India and a few other countries. Sometimes the results are different for the two products. The good news - we are now able to find more of our ancestors and not use microfilm. The results are far better than what as available before. Both products allow you to look at the actual census record. They have also enhanced many of the films making reading the actual pages a lot easier. There will be some ancestors hiding and it will take more work to find them. Check your local libraries - they may have both Ancestry and Heritage Quest that you can use at the library. If you are very lucky some libraries allow you to use it from home for FREE. Both products allow you to search on a first name - and you can narrow the search down by including other known information on a person. Suggestion - if your library has Ancestry - do search at home than go to library to look at actual page. Many libraries have a time limit on their computer use. PS - if someone is looking for a Holiday Gift suggestion from you - consider Ancestry (getting expensive - may need a few Santa helpers to pool their money), _www.everton.com_ (http://www.everton.com) (Everton Publishers - remember them - they are now on-line) or another service. First check your public library. Also, I noticed more states are adding records to their Internet sites (for free). Illinois has great records on-line. Does Ancestry uniformly spell our county name as above? I've noticed it over and over, and also among the postings in Volume 1, Issue 46. Did some transcriber think it was Scotch? Linda K.

I was able to find Morgan White age 20, Blacksmith, on the 1850 Census with the family of John Austin in Morgan County, Illinois. This is his marriage information: WHITE, MORGAN LAND, MARY 02/20/1853 MACOUPIN On the 1860 Census in the town of Lancaster, Cass County, Illinois Morgan White 25 Blacksmith born IL Mary White 28 born KY William M???ellus 6 born IL Elizabeth Land 14 born IL Souru A. White 4 born IL Mary B. White 2 born IL Unfortunately, the census information before 1850 did not show names of family members, but on the 1840 census in Morgan County IL I did find a James White with two sons age 10 to 15 and a Solomon White with one son 5 to 10 and two sons 10 to 15. That's about all I can come up with for now. I have copies of the census sheets mentioned. Contact me off list if you want them.
