Thank you for the info Dan. This past week Bob Crouch from Carlinville came here to ask some questions of the Gates family. I have invited him to the reunion this year and he is interested! He is from the line of Andrew Peter Gates, brother to my great grandfather Frank W. Gates. He had the lines all wrong, pictures mislabeled and just went from things people had told him. We need to help him before he spreads the wrong info. I told him perhaps one day we could all get together and discuss the family. I think that helps anyone who is trying to get started. He has done this for awhile, but put it away for awhile too. His grandmother was Daisy Gates Kates. He had Henry and Sallie Gates' photos labeled as Kates family members. I told him they were not, so he is changing the names now. Is there a time we could try to get together? Good day, Both Levin N. English and his wife Mary Vancleve West are buried in Bethel Ridge Cem. She died 6 Mar 1900. This is according to records I got from Thomas Hopkins English, PhD. They include handwritten notes from Mary Virginia Stoddard nee English and from Dr. John N. English of Gillespie. The records have been entered into a genealogy program. They also include many obits from newspapers, and photos, including ones of Levin N. English and Mary Vancleve English nee West. One generation back (the children of Thomas English IV b about 1788 died 1836 and Allie Cooper of Kentucky d 1833 , that is the siblings of Levin Nelson English b 1830) the daughters married T.J. Fullington, George Eoff (moved to Oregon), Foster Brown, another Brown, Hall S. Rountree. Other researchers take the English line further back. I am actually looking for a descendant of one of these lines to take the records. I am not a descendant. Please write for more information. Butch Konneker
Levin N. English born 1858 married Temperance Illinoie Lay 25 Jan. 1899 in Macoupin. They lived in Shaws Point on the 1900 and 1910 census. I think Levin died before 1920. His parents were Levin N. English and Mary Van Cleve West who also were living in Shaws Point on the 1870 and 1880 Census. Temperance remarried to W K Ring. She died 1967 and is buried in Elmwood Cem. Litchfield, Montgomery, IL. as Temperance English. I believe Levin and his parents are probably buried in Shaws Point. Does anyone have access to the cemeteries in Shaws Point to see if they are buried there? The father Levin N. English died about 1896. I do not have a death date for the mother Mary. Thank you for your help Beryl S. Poteat [email protected]
List, I have been looking for information on Mary J. Carrico as it relates to her fate for several years. This my first query in several years on this line. Mary J. Carrico was born c. 1857, in Illinois, probably Macoupin County, for she is found there in 1860 living with her father, Alexander Carrico. Alexander is single at that time. (I did not presume to call him a widower.) In 1860, Alexander Carrico is living with the Ransom family, along with Mary J. Carrico, who is apparently his child by an earlier marriage. My mother indicated that this could have been the case, for there were times when her mother, Laura Carrico White, made comments which indicated that there could have been a half-sister in the family. When Alexander Carrico married Cassandra Margaret Smith in 1864, he had a child, Mary J. Carrico, born ca. 1857, in Illinois. No more has been located on this person. We can tell from the 1870 census record that for a while both Mary J. and Laura Ann Carrico lived in the same household. Alexander married my great grandmother 15 Sep 1864 in Carlinville, Macoupin County, Illinois. I have his subsequent history. I need some information relating to Mary J. Carrico. According to the Carlinville Democrat for Thursday, September 10, 1874, "Mr. Alexander Carrico, who lived three miles east of town, after returning home from town Friday evening in getting out of his buggy stumbled over a can and fell to the ground striking on his head and breaking his spinal column. He died in a few hours. He was born in 1816." Thanks, John at Sissom dot org
New Publication from the St. Clair County Genealogical Society St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church Census 1888-1895, Belleville St. Peter's was the first parish established within the confines of Belleville in 1842. It became became the Cathedral on 25 April 1888 following the establishment of the Diocese of Belleville the previous year. The parish census was to be compiled every three years, and this first ledger includes two, if not three, censuses taken circa 1888-1895. This parish census helps fill the genealogical void created for the burned 1890 federal census. Included are 895 Belleville area families in St. Clair County, Illinois , 4050 parishioners with birth and marriage dates and places specified, names non-Catholic spouses (99), pewholders (469), converts (24), and schoolchildren (568). Dozens of widow(er)s indicate the names of a deceased spouse and that person's death date. Birth parents are identified for the majority of the 45 adopted or "quasi-adopted" children--a rare find for this time period. Prepublication orders for this 160+ page book are now being taken with printing scheduled for early April 2007. Mail $15.00 (includes postage) to SCCGS-St. Peter's P.O. Box 431 Belleville, Illinois 62222-0431. This SCCGS project was produced by volunteers. SCCGS is non-profit and tax exempt, section 501(c)(3).

Hallo Kathie, thanks for your two e-mails, the extensive searching and the http-sources. I am not an ancestry-member. As a “registered guest” I cannot grab all and see often only listed results without details. Perhaps I will become a member and then the adresses are in addition helpful. Yes, that is the correct family and your dates certify my records to Churovich/Warschütz. There are only two differences: Josephine was not born in RUSSIA (= Rußland) but in PRUSSIA (= Preußen) - sometimes documents are badly to read. My papers say moreover, she arrived USA (New York) with her three children on ship President Grant in (29.11.)1912 (not 1919) – you write yourself the last two children already are born in IL 1916 and 1917. Thanks also for 1888 born spouse MIKE Churovich. Formerly I found in the 1930census two MIKE (born 1888 and 1890) but could not discover which was the spouse. To the name “Warschütz” I have now information, that the spelling probably was changed into “Warshettes”. The 1930census shows John (= Johann), Augusta (= Auguste) and Freida (= Frieda) Warshettes in Wayne County, MI. The birthdates are nearly corresponding. I will follow this new trail. Maybe someone can help me: According to “Ellis Island ON-LINE” the family (Johann – born 1887 –, Auguste – born 1889 – and Frieda – born 1915 – Warschuetz) immigrated to USA in 1923 (Johann) and 1924 (Auguste and Frieda). Although in 1923/1924 a sister of Johann Warschütz (named Josephine Churovich) lived in Carlinville, IL, i did not found there (or somewhere else in USA) any notice of Warschütz or Warschuetz (or Warschitz). Only the “Macomb County, Michigan, Naturalization Index” contains – but without declaration of a year – on page 763 (of 807) the name “Johann Warschuetz” with the notice “SECOND PAPER V38, P904” – certainly not to look at online. My questions: The naturalization-document V38, P904 indeed is named “Johann Warschuetz” but can it (and does it) include the whole family ?Was there on the occasion of naturalization the opportunity to change the family name ?Who has more information to the name W. (or tips for further searching) ? . Thanks for any help and support greetings from Germany Harald Bick ________________________________________________________________________ Kostenlos: AOL eMail 2 GB Speicherplatz sowie erstklassiger Spam- und eMail Virenschutz.
