Wayne, I completely agree with you and this is the standard I try to live up to and I hope others will. But I just don't have the time or the interest in trying to educate those who don't hold the same values. Regarding copyright, which has become increasingly unenforceable, we have yet to see the full impact that the web is going to have on the whole concept. And I know a couple of authors with copyrighted books who have pretty much the same attitude. So, if I understand the recent postings on this subject; Ethics and Integrity and Common Courtesy do not mean anything anymore. Anything in any manner is fair game???? Providing the photos and data for the reasearcher is the ultimate goal, but instead of doing the physical work, I gather it is OK to surf the web and take from anywhere and post it somewhere else as your own. I suspect that authors with copywritten works would strongly disagree. Most genealogy websites are ethical and if they wish to use an item from another website, they request permission. I am of the opinion that Ethics and Integrity and Common Courtesy are very important and should be a way of life. Are we we that degraded in our lifestyles that good manners do not matter anymore? I agree. I use findagrave to help make index lists to send to Gloria for the Mac site and help keep track of if I have the entire cemetery done or not and if the person is a relative I can add extra info. I have found info I submitted there copied into duplicate listings, I have found photos I sent to Gloria posted there as from others none of that matters to me as long as the info gets out there for the researcher who wouldn't be able to visit the cemetery any other way. Wayne FAG submissions are by individuals.  If you look at the submitter's line on the entry it will give you additional info and in most cases a way to contact the person either on the site or privately.  If you suspect someone has taken your photos, you should contact the individual as FAG trusts that the submitters are honest when submitting the info on any one entry. Many people are using FAG as compared to the county sites because they can access a surname without visiting numerous sites.  FAG recently added a feature for which you can access entries in a county with the person's full name or just the surname.  Many that access FAG are not members of mail lists or gen/his socieites but are heavily involved with genealogy. Also check out Find A Grave (findagrave.com).  Many people are now putting the inventories on that site which also provides for the submitter to include a photo of the gravestone, a photo of the individual and additional information such as the obit.  In addition people can leave simple memorials which is great for those who live a distance away but also want to let other family members know they care too. The site was down for increasing space last week.  I don't know if it's back up yet, but it will be as soon as the needed maintenance gets completed.. I must confess to being a little jealous. We were promised snow up to 6 inches on Saturday and were looking forward to a real snow day. So what happened, not enough snow on top of the car to even make a snow ball. Let me say to start with that  I am  only speaking  for  myself and do not mean it to be criticism of anyone else.  Everything I post, cemetery pictures and otherwise I post hoping that someone will find it helpful. Consequently I don't really care whether it is copied or posted on other sites with or without giving me credit. I agree with Wayne. I have read several cemeteries and put them online. FAG has some of them on their site just as I transcribed/photographed them. At first when I contacted them, they wanted to make it right and they did put my name on them. Later when I found others, I emailed them and never heard from them again. People were submitting them in their names when it was my work. That is 'stealing'. I think there is some kind of "personal contest" to see who can submit the most cemeteries on the FAG site, so people surf the Net and steal others work. So I am not fond of the site either. We could use you, Joseph?<g> No volunteers. Rick Doty has completed taking pics in SEVERAL cems. I have completed 3. Liz Waggoner has completed one. Ruth Ann Rives Hellemeyer has completed one. Several others have done a few stones. Eric Adcock allowed me to put his complete Union Chapel data online. I have done quite a few pics in Union Chapel (I am kin to the whole cem<g>) and my cousin Phyllis and I were doing Oak Grove and got quite a few pics taken. Short answer, still. Need volunteers.
