    3. CAN ANYONE HELP JANICE ????? Earliene Kaelin [email protected] ---------- From: [email protected][SMTP:[email protected]] Sent: Wednesday, June 10, 1998 5:28 pm To: [email protected] Subject: Question My great-great grandfather was from Cumberland County prior to the Civil War. He was mustered into the war at Camp __ in Nov 1861 and was mustered out Nov 1864 in what appears to be Vicksburg Illinois. His name was Sylvester Miler and was in the 5th Illinois Calvary Company I. My questions are: 1) Was there such a place a Vicksburg Illinois? and if so, where? 2) We have him located in Cumberland County in the 1860 census prior to my great-grandfather being born. He owned land in Cumberland County of which he received from what I can tell, being a Mexican War soldier. This land was in Section 34-10N-07E (N2SE4 and S2NE4). However, we were unable to locate him after the Civil War but do know that his wife filed for a Civil War pension in 1869. I have requested this information from Washington but have yet to receive it. My sister, mother, and I are coming to IL to do some research but would like to find out as much as we can on Sylvester prior to going. We have several families to research (Price family and Wilson family in Fulton CO, Bartles/Bartels in Knox CO, Morgan CO to research Sylvester's wife who had remarried and if possible to Cumberland CO.) As you can see we are going to be challenged to get everything done. Appreciate any help you can provide. Janice Ehrens
