Looking at that site (thanks) there are no cemeteries in Milam twp. There isn't a Macon twp, just S. Macon, and just 2 cemeteries, Macon, presumably in section 22, where I think the town is? My map's not too hot. What section is Long Creek Cem in? It might well be where folks from Milam twp buried their dead. The other options would be Mt, Zion twp, or over the various county lines. That could be. I've exhausted Moultrie Co cemeteries in searches for other relatives, but haven't tried the other counties. Her mother was very clear in the Bible that she was buried near Macon. Milam, perhaps? I'm still seeking the burial date and place of Jennie Bastion Seass Bartlett, who was b. Dubuque 1854, m. George Bartlett Dec 13, 1883, Sullivan, Moultrie Co, Il. The family Bible places her death between Feb 1884 and June 1891. Place is "in the country near Macon," with burial "in the country." Kind people on this list have found some helpful info for me, but Jennie remains elusive. I'm still sure she's buried there, just buried, so to speak. > > I haven't tracked the right George Bartlett for sure. But he may be the prominent Maconite George G.A. Doris - long shot but township government wasn't instituted universally in Illinois immediately after it accepted in 1848. Before 1848 and for years thereafter, they had precincts. The precincts may or may not have had the same name as the resulting townships and generally did not have the same boundaries. Generally in the end there were more townships than precincts. I do not know when township government was instituted in Macon County. Wait - I looked it up - November 8, 1859. Spoils my idea but I think I'll send the message anyway for the information about precincts and townships. You can find some interesting information on Macon County at http://www.sos.state.il.us/departments/archives/irad/macon.html I have found the information on the township names is not always correct on that site. In some cases -- for example on Harristown it notes name changed from Harris -- Harris was probably the precinct name but it would be incorrect to assume they were precisely the same area.
