    3. Doris: The town of Macon is in sections 32, 33 and 29, mostly in 32. Long Grove Cem. is located in section 13, which is in the far southeast corner of S. Macon Twp, right across the line from Milam Twp. By the way, there is a plat map on the Macon Co. web page, but I can't get it to fully load. Macon Cemetery is in section 29 of S. Macon Twp. There isn't a Macon twp, just S. Macon, and just 2 cemeteries, Macon, presumably in section 22, where I think the town is? My map's not too hot. What section is Long Creek Cem in? It might well be where folks from Milam twp buried their dead. The other options would be Mt, Zion twp, or over the various county lines. That could be. I've exhausted Moultrie Co cemeteries in searches for other relatives, but haven't tried the other counties. Her mother was very clear in the Bible that she was buried near Macon. > > Thanks, > Doris > > >

    3. A plat map or a section map? There is the 1875 township and section map. If it is that map and you are having trouble you can also find it at http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/maps/illinois/il1875/MACON.JPG and if you right click you can download a copy to your computer. 3. Here's an example of an old plat map from Sangamon County -- it's for Illiopolis Township which is just west of Macon County. Click on the little button with arrows [generally the last thing to load so wait] to enlarge. In Section 18 right under the 18 [the road under the 18 is old US 36] there is a cross and that is a cemetery. In that very old cemetery there are buried some of the early settlers from the Niantic area. If you look around there is another cemetery down on the Sangamon River. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/maps/illinois/countymap/sangamon_atlas/ill iopolis.jpg You can quickly see several uses for plat maps. With a series of plat maps it is possible to trace land ownership. Of course, this assumes your ancestors were farmers. They didn't do the towns. If you go to http://www.rootsweb.com/~ildecgs/maconcip.htm you will find a large number of very useful publications related to Macon County. Unlike some places these are quite reasonably priced. You should support the local genealogical society wherever you are researching so they can continue to provide useful information.
