I recently contacted the National Personnel Records Center online at http://vetrecs.archives.gov to see what military records they had for my late husband and to see how it worked. They had none for him. They had me fill out some forms and send what I had which I did. They replied that his records would have been in the area that was destroyed by fire on July 12, 1973, which destroyed the major portion of Army records from 1912-1959 and Air Force records from Hubbard through Z for 1947-1963. They went on to say that in many cases there are alternate record sources which contain information but in my case I had more information that they did. It appears, however, that they DO have records for Navy, Marines, pre 1912 and post 1959 Army, post 1963 Air Force. Army Air Corps was filed in Army.
