    2. Elam's was the name of the root beer stand on Eldorado. They live next door to my mother and step dad. Still a very nice couple! Even in the 60's, the Steak and Shake was the place to be on Friday and Saturday night. We would drive through it over and over waiting to get a spot. You would go and order a coke and maybe fries and just sit there waiting to see everyone in Decatur and surrounding towns going through. I went to the new Steak and Shake several times while home this summer. Still great food, and good memories inside. It's so strange to drive by where the one on Main (?) Street used to be. Isn't that the southbound main drag from 51 to the Lake? Does anyone remember eating at Kings Restaurant or ordering chicken from the Flying Kings? What a treat when our grandmother would order. We kids would stand in the window and wait for them to deliver the chicken? Can't believe we were thrilled with chicken, when we killed, dressed and fried our own all the time! Same goes for the Mayview Cafe's chicken. Mmmm. I'm getting hungry for some good chicken and hamburgers just remembering! Jane
