This obit was emailed to me. I know nothing about it but the sender is hopes someone finds it useful. A copy of the following obituary was found in the family Bible of Alphonso and Mary L. ISBELL. Apparently this man was a friend of the family. In handwritten pencil, is the the following date: April 3, 1913. The article was cut out of a newspaper, but the newspaper wasn't referenced. J. F. WORKING, I.D. ENGINEER IS DEAD --------------- In Railroad Service Forty-three Years. -------------- John Frederick Working, Illinois Central engineer, died at 1 o'clock Thursday morning at the family residence, 157 East King street. He had been suffering from a complication of diseases for some time. He had been ill for three months and for the last two weeks had been confined to his bed. His age was fifty nine years and two months. He was born in Mercer county, Pa., Jan. 13, 1854. He moved with his family to Augusta, Ill., the following year. He and Miss Mary C. Jones of near Golden, Ill., were married July 27, 1875. Mr. Working entered the employ of the C. B. & O. railroad when he was sixteen years old. He worked as brakeman, conductor, fireman and engineer for that road until the strike of 1888. In 1893 he began working as engineer for the Illinois Central and was employed in that capacity up to the time of his death. He is survived by his wife and one son, David Earl Working, and one daughter, Elizabeth Mabel Working, both of Decatur. He was a member of the B. of L. E. and the Knights of the Maccabees of the world, tent 130. The funeral will be held some time Saturday at the residence. The interment will be in Greenwood. **************************************************** As additional information, I researched the 1920 and 1930 census and found his wife and children still in Decatur, Macon Co. His wife died April 6, 1935 in Macon Co. His son, David Earl, died March 13, 1949 (According to the Illinois State Death Index) ************************************************** I hope this information will help someone.
