I wrote to the Macon Co. Courthouse requesting a COPY of the "marriage license" & "return of the marriage" for Homer F. GARDNER & Gertrude R. WHEELING who applied for a Marriage License on 18 Oct. 1924 (as published in the "Decatur Daily Review" on Tues., Oct. 21, 1924), license issued by County Clerk Harvey Fay. I was advised to send a money order for $11.00. I mailed the money order and it was returned to me - NO RECORD FOUND. THIS IS VERY CONFUSING AS ISSUANCE OF THE LICENSE WAS PUBLISHED IN THE LOCAL NEWSPAPER. Anyone on this list who lives near the courthouse who could go there & check this out? I would be happy to reimburse for time spent & copies made. Sue in NY Sue12632@aol.com
Hi Sue, if you know the ate or close to it, you can order the micro-film for old newspapers from the Old State Capital Historical Library, in Springfield, Ill. There is no charge for ordering and reading the papers. You can read it on their machines, I found obits. for two ancestores I didn't have. If you are interested, and want the further information, I will be glad to send you their email address. Mary Sue12632@aol.com wrote:I wrote to the Macon Co. Could be the license was returned to another county, I have one where the license was applied for and marriage performed in Macoupin county but the license was filed in Montgomery county. ----- Original Message ----- From: <Sue12632@aol.com> To: <ILMACON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, January 17, 2004 10:46 AM Subject: [ILMACON] Marriage License > I wrote to the Macon Co.
