Jane From Johanna Kerwin Damery's obit we find that there were 6 siblings, and Lawrence's obit states the sisters names. They all came from Ireland at diff times and we know that a James Kerwin came over with Lawrence along with Ann. Another sister was Mary Kerwin who marr Daniel David Doyle from Ireland, and they also lived in Stonington. Lawrence marr Mary Cahill also of Ireland in MC. They lived in the Stonington area and had 6 sons, including John and my Ggrandpa George. Another son left and went to Peoria and had 6 kids there. My Kerwin's started out in CC and MC. From Mary Kerwin Doyle's death cert we found who the parents of Mary and her siblings were in Ireland. I am still digging and looking for the other male siblings of Lawrence, Mary and Johanna. We know one is James but don't know where he ended up at. They came over together listed as family on the ship Shannon in 1850 to NY. I know very little abt John and Francis and their family thou. SALLY THANKS.....:-)* Sally Hathaway sjhathaway@aol.com
Jane My Ggrandpa George Kerwin that is. So my grandpa Leo and Francis were 1st cousins. SALLY THANKS.....:-)* Sally Hathaway sjhathaway@aol.com
Hi Jane Yes, John and Francis are in my direct line of Kerwin's. I just don't know very much abt them and they did live in Stonington area. There's a Jack over there too. I believe that John was my Ggrandpa's brother and Francis was one of his sons. I remember seeing Francis when I was younger. I don't know who he was ever married to thou or what ever happened to her. SALLY THANKS.....:-)* Sally Hathaway sjhathaway@aol.com
Sally, give me a few days and I'll see what I have on George and his family. I'm also curious about your Kerwin line. My great aunt, Alberta Harbarger Kerwin Scammahorn married Francis Leon Kerwin, whose father was John Kerwin. I don't know any more than that on that line. She still lives in Stongington, Illinois, just down the road from Blue Mound. Wondering if Francis Leon was somewhere along your line. Jane

Hi Jane I'm working on the George Damery family as he married my GGGaunt Johanna Kerwin and she was also from Ireland. I know that they were friends with the Gosnells??? and that they raised 2 of those children. I don't have much else yet. I have been trying to find out all I can on George and his family. Thanks Sally THANKS.....:-)* Sally Hathaway sjhathaway@aol.com
I went to Maroa highschool with Richard's brother Norman HOWLAND class of 58. Beverly (HIMES) Class of 57 now in Texas
Here are a few blurbs from "The Blue Mound Centennial": p. 5 By the time the Civil War ended, many more settlers had entered lands in township fifteen. Among them were ...Richard Damery and Michael Rugh in 1867, George Damery and Joseph Gabriel in 1868 ... p. 6 ...Other early arrivals were: ...George Damery (1862). ... Of the foreign-born, twenty-eight came from Ireland, including Thomas, Jane and Joseph Gabriel and Richard and Mary Damery; Richard Damery came to Pleasant View Township before the town of Blue Mound was founded. All the Damerys in the Blue Mound area are descendants of t his man who came to the United States from Ireland with his bride. (with photo) The high percentage of landowners who lived on their land, and thus put down roots, was a significant characteristic of the Blue Mound community and one which prevailed through the years. For over a hundred years there have been farmers named Armstrong, Bailey, Baughman, Bean, Beckett, Bliler, Crawford, Damery, Goffinett, Gorden .... p. 9 In township fifteen, where Mosquito Creek winds through two sections, there were many long, narrow plots adjoining the water and extending away from the stream. This pattern permitted the Hall, Gray, Clements, Pope, Damery, and Cherry families, among others, to have the secruity provided by timer and water. A glance at an early map of the Sangamon River, where it flowed through Blue Mound Township, shows the same design. ... (Hall and Cherry, as well as Damery, are in my line.) I'm sure there is much more on the Damerys, but that's all the time I have for the night. Let me know who you're working on and I'll be more than happy to see what I have. Jane
Sally, I was at the Blue Mound Library several months ago and was told that there are several Damery's listed in the book, but there were no copies available. My neice is a Damery and I have some info on them. What line are you working on? Have you seen a copy of "The Centennial History of Blue Mound, Illinois"? It isn't indexed. If you haven't I'll take a perusual through it for you. I meant to anyway to work on my Damery line. Let me know who you are looking for, and I'll see if I have anything on your line. I meant to order the book too, but somewhere in one of my travels, I lost the contact's name. I'll see if Mindy can find it for me. She still lives not far from Blue Mound out around Lincoln Trail. My brother lives about five miles from there too. I'll see if he'll check at the library for me too and get the book or at least the contact for the book. Jane
Hi Cheryl, My great grandfather was from Forsyth. His name was Ed Hensley his wife was Kate and they had several children maybe Rich knows of him? I was up to Forsyth in January for a visit. I spoke with the Current brothers. Susan Gayle Portland,ME
Hi Susan: No I don't remember them. I was born there in 1949. First population I remember was just over 400 people. Between my brother's and sister we knew most of them. Mom was even asst. postmistress. Marvin Randall was the post master. Many mornings I helped put up the mail. My dad was the first TV repair man in the area. Richard... Mary I would like her to take on some more help and keep DeWitt. But I haven't heard back form her on it as of yet. From the sounds of her note I don't think she is going to be able to do even that. Earliene has been an excellent CC and researcher. I really would hate to lose her. Richard... Hello, I am wondering if someone on this list that lives in Decatur might know a Madolyn Leake, she is about 78/79 years old. My grandmother Jean Jester married a Maurice McCord Crain and I have just recently found that his sister Madolyn might still be alive. She was born about 1925 in Decatur and married there a Robert Leake. When I pull the information online it is showing me a Madolyn Leake age 78, but the phone number they list just rings I am not getting a answer. I am just wanting to find out what happened to Maurice Crain. My grandmother died in 1955 not knowing what happened to him, they had divorced in 1944, then she married my grandfather. I think I have found info he died in 1960, but not sure I have the correct Maurice. Also would like to get the correct information for his parents, I think he and Madolyn was only half brothers and sisters. Their father Virgil Crain married Madolyns mother Jennie Bishop in 1917, Maurice was born in 1906, but can't find another marriage record for Virgil. Hoping Madolyn can asnwer some questions about the family. thank you for your help Jean Rowcliffe in Colorado
I have not seen the book. The lady contacted me about it and she is preparing to send it to the Decatur Genealogical Society. -----Original Message----- From: SJHATHAWAY@aol.com [mailto:SJHATHAWAY@aol.com] Sent: Friday, February 13, 2004 9:18 PM To: ILMACON-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [ILMACON] Nicholls and Family Obits Do you know if there is any reference to the Damery's in that book?
