    1. [ILMACON-L] Hays Surname in my records.
    2. Earliene M. Kaelin
    3. I have several married into "Hays" so have decided to post the marriages and burials that I have record of: First would have to be the Coppenbarger/ Hays Cemetery just south of Hallsville in DeWitt County, simply because it is located on what was first the land of my gggg grandparents homestead. They were Jacob Coppenbarger and Catherine Snavely Coppenbarger who came to Illinois as early as 1820 from Blount County, TN. and before that Wythe County, VA. There is no complete listing for the Cemetery in the Cemetery inscriptions because by the time they did them, a lot of the gravesties had been destroyed. The following is a list transcribed by my Aunt on a visit in 1949. I also have early pictures taken 1951/52 if anyone is interested in having copies. This land was eventually donated by Emaline Hays the daughter of Jacob and Catherine. The first burial was done abt. 1824 and was that of a little girl by the name of Vestral. We have no first name or age. It should also be noted that there was an area in this cemetery for Indian burials and those graves were only marked by field stones and we have no record of who was buried there. Also there are many graves that will forever be unknown as they were not marked. To follow is the most complete list we can have: Jacob Coppenbarger Sept. 1769-Nov 1841 Catherine Coppenbarger d. 4-25-1857 76y7m24days Matilda Coppenbarger d. 12-25-1833 34y9m15d Mary Coppenbarger dau of S.P. & H.T. d. 1828 Mary Coppenbarger d. 9-6-1878 79y2m10d William Coppenbarger d. 3-27-1853 John Coppenbarger d. 3-17-1853 Joab Coppenbarger d. 2-8-1879 56y10m3d William Coppenbarger 1829-1859 30y5m15d Mary Ann Butler d. 6-15-1846 38y8m25d Amos Wright 1847-1928 Rebecca Wright Coppenbarger d. 8-13-1854 32y11d John Coppenbarger 10-6-1869 George Coppenbarger d. 1853 William Hays d. 2-17-1855 35y11d Joel M. 1. [ILMACON-L] RE: Lane Cemetery
    2. Earliene M. Kaelin
    3. Linda, There is no Lane Cemetery, in DeWitt that I know about, but most of the Lane's are buried in Rock Creek Cemetery. There is only one Sanders buried there and that is actually a Mary Coppenbarger Sanders. She was the daughter of Marg. Lane/ Jacob Coppenbarger. She married Charles Douglas Sanders 1881.. Marg. J. Lane was the daughter of Jessie J. Lane and Jacob was the son of John B. Coppenbarger. Is Charles Douglas related to your John Henry Sanders??? Is there anyone else out there that might know where all the Sanders are buried??? Earliene Kaelin [email protected] ---------- From: The Maki Family[SMTP:[email protected]] Sent: Thursday, April 30, 1998 11:02 pm To: [email protected] Subject: Lane Cemetery Hello Earliene, Would you by any chance be have the town of Lane Il. in your book. I have found that my ggg.grandpa John Henry Sanders listed the town of Lane as his res. on the Il Civil War data base for Veterens. As he was killed in the war, I was hoping to find his grave in a Lane Cemetery if there is one. thankyou very much. Linda Maki [email protected]

    3. Another Problem: George COPPENBARGER m/ Nancy HENDERSON Macon County 11-12-1829 Nancy b. 1-31-1817 in Kentucky d. 1869 DeWitt Co.,IL buried Copp./Hays Cemetery Who is Nancy?????? DeWitt County History says that she is the daughter of John/Jack HENDERSON who helped John Coppenbarger build the first Grist mill in DeWitt. It says that this John was from Kentucky but not where or when, also says that John returned there about the time of the Civil War. We cannot find John/Jack on Census 1850. There are other early HENDERSON's that Nancy could be related to: Isaac HENDERSON b. 1819 Addie HENDERSON Stewart HENDERSON Is anyone researching these HENDERSON's I would love to learn more about them.
