Notes for JAMES JOSEPH EWING: James Joseph EWING was born in Logan County, Illinois, 12 Dec 1834. Soon after the Civil War broke out he enlisted in the 106th Regiment, Company F, Illinois Volunteers. He was appointed to the office of first lieutenant. He was honorably discharged at Pine Bluff, Arkansas, in 1865. Soon after his discharge his wife, Julia Ann HATFIELD EWING, died (3 October 1865). Julia is buried in Atlanta Cemetery in Logan County, Illinois. Her grave is unmarked. James Joseph Ewing then married Anna ALLENSWORTH in 1869 and together with his two children from Julia Ann they moved to Mills County, Iowa. Joseph and Anna then had two children of their own. He died 15 Sep 1920 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, Calif., and is buried in Glenwood Cemetery, Mills County, Iowa. His secondary stone shows his service in the Civil War as: Co F 106 Ill Inf.
