    1. [ILLOGAN] Re: Logan county History books?
    2. I assumed she was asking about the books on history but it is always good to give the list of available items. > 2. "Heirship Records of Logan County" "2 volumes, are $10.00 includes >postage. Unbound. I have these. Being unbound they are filed differently in my office and I was only able to locate the second volume instantly. These are a transcription of the heirship records of the Circuit Court and run from about 1910-1925. The reproduction is not the best having been originally transcribed in 1970. Her's an example: Brock, John D. 5 October 1921 73 Fay Sanford, daughter; Fay Etta Sanford, grandchild; Fred W. Jr. Sanford, grandchild Brock is the one who died. I don't know if the date is the date of death or the date of probabte. 73 is a page number from the original document. The people are his legal heirs. Since it lists the grandchildren I am guessing these are all potential heirs, not just those named in a will -- or if these are records where there was no will. I didn't see any of my ancestors there so I can't verify. I note in others the list extends well beyond what a person would normally name in a will, sometimes nieces and nephews for example. Probate can be complex [and probate law can be a snooze class]. Laws have changed since the time of these records. > 3. "LOGAN COUNTY 1880 UNITED STATES FEDERAL CENSUS (2 volumes) $15.00." I've mentioned this before and I think it is a valuable item for anyone with more than one or two ancestors in Logan County in 1880. > 4. "W W 1 LOGAN COUNTY MILITARY MEMBERS $3.00." I haven't seen it. > 5. "LOGAN COUNTY CIVIL WAR MILITARY MEMBERS $3.00." I hate to say this but you can get this free on the internet. There is also a detailed list in the 1878 History. > 6. "STEENBERG CEMETARY VETERAN's LIST $3.00." I haven't seen this one either. Did Dalen Shellhammer do it? He's THE authority on Steenbergen Cemetery IMO. > 7. "REVOLUTIONARY WAR LOGAN COUNTY SOLDIERS (5) $1.00." I haven't seen this one. I'd be curious as to how accurate it is. I know of at least one person who was on the original list who was NOT a RW soldier and I'd think, with all the current research, there would be new folks who should be on the list. > The Logan County Genealogical and Historical Society, or LCG&HS, > 11 Arcade Ct. > Lincoln, IL 62656-2743. You could even join and get their quarterly mailings. Dues are $13 a year. Cheryl Rothwell clrothwell@mindspring.com
