>From Mary Ann Kaylor, Sangamon County: I read with interest today, an article in the State Journal Register, Springfield, IL, where a new Tombstone was dedicated by the DAR for Revolutionary War Vet AQUILLA DAVIS in Wolf Creek Cemetery, Sangamon County. Aquilla Davis resided in the Fancy Creek area, as well as in an area which later became Logan County. He was born 1756 in the Chesapeake Bay Area of Maryland and died 15 Aug 1831. DAR records indicate that he enlisted at age 25, in March 1781, serving as a Pvt with the VA Continental Line under Lt. Robert Craddock in Col. Posey's 4th VA Regiment. He married Isabella BRIGGS in VA in 1784 and emigrated to KY. They had six sons and two daughters. His profession was a school teacher and postmaster in Morganfield, KY. The family came to IL in 1820 settling near Elkhart, which then was in Sangamon County. Hope this info helps someone! Cheryl Rothwell clrothwell@mindspring.com
