This tidbit from Dick Eastman's online genealogy newsletter, current issue, explains why that GEDCOM you downloaded from the LDS site doesn't work: FamilySearch GEDCOM File Fixer Nick J Hunter of SpanSoft reports that: The latest enhancement to the LDS FamilySearch Web site (at http://www.familysearch.org) allows you to download the results of your search in a GEDCOM file. Unfortunately the LDS has made a mistake in the way that these GEDCOM files are generated, which means that they are not imported correctly into many genealogy programs including Kith and Kin Pro. We have contacted the LDS to point this out to them but it may be a while before they fix the problem. In the meantime we have made a utility available which fixes these GEDCOM files. It is available to anybody (freeware) from our Web site at http://www.spansoft.org. Windows 95 or 98 is required. I have not verified the problem that Nick Hunter reported. However, if you download a GEDCOM file from http://www.familysearch.org and then have problems trying to import it into your favorite genealogy program, you might check out the File Fixer to see if it corrects the problem.
