What's to tell? It's a wonderful place for doing research. I spent two full days there from morning 'til closing at 10 PM. I only stopped briefly for a bite to eat at lunch in the snack room. I only had two days and I got copies of everything I found. It's a huge building. There is a whole floor of books, a whole floor for microfilm research on the US and a whole floor of microfilm research beyond the US shores. The entire building is full of nothing but genealogy sources. Everything was right there. I'm told some of the more obscure or seldom researched microfilms are kept in a vault inside a granite mountain, but all you need do is request the film and within 24 hours it's available. It's suggested that you check through your local FHC and if the film you need is vaulted, just tell them you're coming and what film you need and it will be waiting for you when you arrive. Everyone was extremely helpful with finding things and for giving me ideas on alternate places to look. I got copies of birth records when before all I could find were birth indexes. I got copies of death certificates and cemetery records, when before all I could find were death indexes. Absolutely amazing! I only had time to research Cook County, IL and Woodbury County, IA. They also have a complete set of US Census records. Because of info I found on birth and death certs, I was able to find more census records. I wish I could have stayed longer. I'm sure I'll go back again. Carol
