The Index to Guardian's Case Files 1825-1901, 1910-1911 for Sangamon County is 26 pages long and is an alphabetical listing. It costs $7. The preface says it contains 2,474 names, generally deceased parents, sometimes an incompetent person. The preface explains what records are available. The book does not contain the records, only a list of them. The records themselves are at IRAD in Springfield [NOT Normal where Logan County records reside]. The index was compiled by IRAD interns. Examples: Lucas, Thomas 139 1834 In this example Thomas Lucas is deceased [he died in 1831 -- I don't have the date of death of his wife handy - she was a Hoblit]. The case number is 139 and the year is 1834. That's all the information you are going to get but it confirms the record and you can order the actual records from IRAD. Since IRAD wants details to do a search this book would be helpful in providing them. Remember, after February 1839 the listings do not include Logan County so the window here is 1825-1838 really.
