Cheryl, Jeremiah BIRKS was said to have fought in the Winnebago War. That is how he received his title "Captain" according to George FLOWERS history of his visit with Jeremiah. This war took place about 1827 and as far as I can tell, it was against the Native Americans who were raiding the settlers up and down the midwest (IL, MN, etc.). Jeremiah was said to have been a scout or something up on the Canadian border. Thanks for the address of the Black Hawk War roster.
