Bottom line, published between 1923 and 1977 with no copyright notice it is NOT copyrighted. Published before 1923 it is in the public domain anyway. Published in 1978 or after notice is not required. Assume it is copyrighted. If you have something to contribute but weren't sure about the copyright status this site should give you the answer.
