Atlanta is in Logan County but that area [can't say about the city proper off the top of my head] has been in various counties. I don't have an exact map in front of me but in 1830 Sangamon included Sangamon, much but not all of Logan, parts of Mason, Menard, etc. The north and northeast end of what is now Logan was slower to come into the county.
