Hi Britta...Did I mention I have a degree in state and local government? Townships in relation to what we were discussing [a map] are geographic. The fact that Illinois hangs on to the archaic <g> township government system doesn't pertain. >There are some critics who believe that township government represents a duplication of tax monies, but supporters believe that some services such as road maintenace are still better provided at the township level. To many citizens, townships may seem to be invisible entities, but to rural dwellers, they are still very real and very important. I'm a critic. I grew up in Mt. Pulaski Township however so I do understand why they are useful to rural residents, not that those duties couldn't be absorbed by the county. I am not going to comment on road maintenance in Logan County... This really isn't the place.
