Hello Cheryl...I was just checking some old messages and I read yours of April 28. Townships in Illinois are governmental units. We live in Chester Township and elect township officials. Especially important is the Road Commissioner. The town of Atlanta is in Eminence Township;Beason is in Oran Township; Mt. Pulaski is in Mt. Pulaski township and some towns straddle two townships. There are some critics who believe that township government represents a duplication of tax monies, but supporters believe that some services such as road maintenace are still better provided at the township level. To many citizens, townships may seem to be invisible entities, but to rural dwellers, they are still very real and very important. Thank you. Britta B.
