    2. In a book by Gwen Suttory Rosenfield, "ECHOES FROM THE BRANCHES" She tells of the "big snow of 1830-31 - It began in Nov. of1830 and continued to fall until Jan. 1831 with very little intermissions: the temperature got no higher than 12 below. It ruined all the corn crops which had just reached maturity, watermills were frozen, almost all stock perished, all fruit trees died, and the settlers tell us this area was by far the greatest by far for raising fruit, but after the big snow it never regained its prestige. The snow finally ended with three feet on the level ground and at places there were fifteen to twenty foot drifts. There has never been another snow so deep and fierce as this one in Logan Co.." This is an interesting book about the area around Elkhart. The newspaper articles are real interesting also. My Grandfather was a Minister in the area and sent my mother lots of cuttings from the papers, weddings, obits, etc, which she kept in two scrapbooks. The only problem is I have no idea which papers they were from. Although some did mention the Herald. Keep up the good work - Maxine
