Dear Carolyn, I was just sure someone else would as this........ To me, these days almost any snippet of information can be stored with similar bits of information in a file. Each snippet would be called a "record." I'm having the same problem your having: You said: "In an immigration record there is a number called The Source Code. -The Source Code is a "code indicating the specific source containing the immigrant record"." Where did you find the Immigration Record your talking about or what is the name of the file this record is stored in? Is it on a CD, Is it on microfilm at your regional NARA? at a Family History center/ A book at the local library? I may not be able to help but I bet I'm not the only one feeling verrrrrry confused .... What is this SPECIFIC SOURCE? Are there books containing these numbers telling where to conduct a further search, and if so where might these be? > > > > Thanks, Carolyn
