    2. Two brothers marrying two sisters or any combination of siblings marrying siblings was extremely common. I have two Downing lines and in one generation three siblings of one line married three siblings of the other -- no names changed but the confusion grew! Marriages of first cousins were also very common. You had to marry what was available, often within whatever restrictions your family might apply such as religion. The choices were limited.
