Many of you know of Sandra Shellhammer, genealogist and wife of genealogist Dalen Shellhammer. Possibly they are most noted to readers of this list for their work with Steenbergen Cemetery where Dalen was head of the board for what seems like forever. They walked many, many cemeteries and helped many researchers with local research in Logan, Macon and Sangamon Counties. They lived practically on the Sangamon/Logan line just off Shellhammer Road. Sandra died this morning after a battle with cancer. She had been a resident of Vonderlieth in Mt. Pulaski for some time. I think of her as a local researcher and more recently involved in heir searches so I was surprised to find the following posted on the Association of Professional Genealogists mailing list. I was informed this morning that Sandra Stewart Shellhammer of Illiopolis, IL has passed away in the early hours of today. Sandy has always been a person who was willing to lend a helping when a question arose about IL research. Sandy's quiet assistance is what has made her great. I have known Sandy for many years and I truly feel the genealogy world will be less bright now that she has passed from the scene.
