Marilyn Underwood pointed out this resource. Your ancestors may have written up in a Springfield newspaper too, depending on what they did. Obituaries from Logan residents still appear although the paper of choice for that seems to vary from year to year. While Marilyn used the obituary index they film the entire paper. Many Logan residents go to Springfield for medical services. Babies are born there and those appear in the paper. It's a resource to keep in mind. Lincoln Library Sangamon Valley Collection 7th & Monroe Sts. Springfield, IL 62701 Lincoln Library houses microfilms of all early and present issues of Springfield newspapers. They have an Obituary Index Card file from the IL State Journal & Register which is published in Springfield. They charge 25 cents a copy. Here's Marilyn's experience: "The library has a card file in the Sangamon Collection (genealogy ) Dept. that someone writes from the surrounding newspapers. They have quite a bit of info. on them. It shows the date they died and day it was listed in the paper - and what newspaper; sometimes the husband or wife (survivor) what they died from, where they were from and now living. You write down the date it appeared in the paper and page no., then go to the Reference Desk and either give him the list or read them off and he pulls the microfilm for you. I have also written up there and they have been very helpful. I wish all towns had that system and that goes back so far! For those who live at a distance note that they do provide help by mail.
